^Let me know if you are having troubles seeing the picture.

I was browsing another honda forum that I regular today when I saw this. It's a stock air box with a bunch of holes cut into it like swiss cheese, for those of you who can't see it.

This was my arguement to the poster:
I was thinking that having just the one hole would create more air velocity than a bunch of smalls holes. Then again maybe you are right and maybe its best to get the least restriction to the air filter element and then let the intake tubing take care of the velocity. Hmmm something to ponder

So what do you guys think about this idea? :eek7:

they poke holes in it so as to not suck large objects into the filter i believe. I would just cut the whole damn bottom off or get an aftermarket cone filter

I bought a CAI cuz I'm not THAT much of a cheap ass. You could get a short ram or cold air intake on ebay for pretty fuckin cheap.

I think either way, it would create about the same amount of air flow. Whether its one big whole or a bunch of small ones, its still before the filter which in my mind would cause the air to slow down the same amount either way. Anyways, if one way really is better than the other, I bet the difference is really less than 1 hp.

P.S. Nice looking rex

The bottom of my airbox is complete cut out with a k&n filter. I really like the look of the stock airbox over a intake tube. I acutally have a aem intake on my 89 but I chose not to put it on the 90.

if you take out that resonator box behind the bumper the stock airbox will flow pretty good, even without those holes in it.

you get a fair bit of induction noise if u do that, on my 1.6-16 i cut out the side nearest the inner wing so i got cold air from there too, it was just a temporary thing until i got a cone filter, worked ok though

pretty ghetto... what hybrid did sounds more efficient and no hot engine air...

I have already taken off the resonator from the bumper back to the airbox. Yes it does flow well, and yes I love the sound it makes. I think that I will go ahead and cut off the bottum of the airbox and then find someway to suspend it. The whole reason why I haven't purchased a CAI is the fact that I don't want to waste any money on this engine when I will be putting in a b20 not too far in the future. :thinkerg:
