71 chevy nova ignition switch troubles

Hello,
I am new to the forum and I am glad I found you all I have a 71 nova and I need to change out the ignition (cylinder with key) I have been told to just unbolt steering wheel and can pop it out, I have been told that I have to have a special tool in order to remove it. I am confused and need some advice on how to do this, if i need this tool is it easier to have bought the part and call locksmith?? I appreciate any and all advice thanks in advance
