checking Calipers

I have a 93 Escort, and was wondering how I can test my calipers? If they are seized or partially seized or if they are O.K.. Any help would be great.

1. check for VERY uneven wear on the pads. The one with the wear indicator is thinner even when new.

If you cannot tell or have doubts.

Remove the bolts, loosen the master cylinder cap. Then using a large screwdriver or medium pry bar attempt to very slowly open/spread the caliper. Just like you are going to change the pads. Even if they were sticking this may free them up. Lift the caliper and inspect the slide area for any rust if you see any clean it with a wire brush. I then apply some anti seige compound but this is not required. Reassemble and test. Good Luck

If they are seized on their sliders, proceed as above. However, the pistons may be seized in their bores. This is most commonly seen if the car pulls to one side when braking, of if one or both of the front wheels is dragging when the brake is released.
The only cure is new or rebuilt calipers
