Well we've just done our good deed for the day.

Rescued a poor hedgehog from our pool. Looked like the poor thing had been swimming all day :(

Took him to the vets and now he's all warm and snug! :D

hehe, we rescued one last year too. Poor little thing sneezed all the way to the vets so they put him in an incubator for a few days and then we brought him back home and released him in the park next door. :)

Hedgehogs are dirty discusgusting creatures that carry more disease than the average south auckland rat. They destroy native plants on a regular basis, as well as enjoying the odd Kiwi egg for breakfast.

They are a pest, and serve no useful purpose save for being highway targets.

Sorry FTO girl, im sure you had good intentions, and it shows a huge degree of compasion to do what you did, but its like stoping to give a possum CPR after you've run it over. :)

Hitting them after they've just eaten is the worst. Especialy in something large and heavy like a truck. You end up with this half digested spread of leaves and plant material spread all over the inside of the wheel cover, and down the side of the vechile. :apuke:
Of course thier a little bit past needing CPR then. :D

:flipa:

Actualy it bounces up and jumps over them. :p

The frount cross member is very low, and besides scraping on a lot of driveways is the perfect height for braining possums and rabbits, and rolling hedgehogs. :frog:

(sorry FTO Girl im sure your little hedgehog is happily snuffling way under someones hedge :) )

I'm sure the little bugger is all warm and snug, but wouldn't it had been fine if you let the sucker loose after extracting it from the pool?

If ya stop and really think about it, wouldn't almost any wild creature be disgusting and disease carrying? You don't where they have been, what they have eaten, or what diseases they have. I also know of a few people's tamed pets that are disgusting too LOL....namely my mother's dog. I'll spare ya the details of what he eats when he goes outside :figner:

I too am an animal lover and hate seeing animals in distress. A few years ago we had a baby mockingbird fall from its nest at my office. The mother took off. Since there are cats from the apartments next door to us, I put the bird in a box and took it home. We had a small spare cage so I put him in it with some fruit bits and water. I also stopped by the petstore and bought some mealworms for him. He stayed with us for a month. He was given the name "Monster." During the first few days he became pretty tame and would follow us around the house, sit on our shoulders and hitch a ride from one room to another. If he was caged, he would get excited when someone came in and want to be fed. During the day I took him to work and put his cage out on the patio or landing (we are on the 2nd floor) and left his door open. He would run around and chase whoever came in or out expecting food. When he got tired he would go into the cage and nap. Then I took him home at nite. At the end of his month's stay he started getting independent and his wild side was starting to show, so I knew it was time for him to be out in the wild. Since he did not know how to hunt I gave him to a wildlife rehabilitation center and a few weeks later they called me to let me know that he was grwon up and had been released :)

Thats really cool! I always wanted a pet bird but didn't want a parrot.

Oh, about the hedgehogs, I am biased agianst the little buggers for above mentioned reasons;)

We had a large Cockatoo in my family for 8 years. As much as I love animals, I have to say that was a pretty long horrific 8 years. She never talked, she screamed to the point where the dogs would cry. To keep the place looking neat the cage had to be cleaned twice a day. After my mom got severely ill we gave her to someone who breeds large birds and found her a mate. She is now a proud mother. Stick to small birds...cockatiels (smaller cousin of cockatoo) are the cleanest and neatest of birds. Parrots and other large breed birds require as much care and attention (if not more) than a 2 year old child

And to all you other animal haters, for your information the vet said he was very healthy (sometimes hedgehogs have mange), but he was one of the healthiest she had seen.

And yes, I would stop to help an injured possum too. Just because they’re an animal doesn’t mean they should suffer pain.

So to all of you
