Check Engine Light

I have a '90 Crx dx. The check engine light comes on only after driving on the highway, not driving around town. Then when I turn the car off the light stays off. I didn't have this problem until I installed a short ram air intake, but that was 3 months ago. The problem started two weeks ago. I took it to several garages, but they won't check it. I can't take it to a Honda garage because they are closed when the enigne light decides to come on. The Honda garages say that it has to be on to read the codes. The car runs fine when it's on. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

well the code will actually save in the ecu, wether or not the light on the dash is on or not. pull up your passanger side carpet under the dash and locate the red light, count the number of flashes, then tell us what it says, and we can help you from there.

Yep, it's easy. I'm surprised the honda place told you that it had to be on. Those honda dealerships are getting a bit fruity lately. :boink:

So what exactly does that mean? Does that mean that the 02 sensor is bad or that a vacum line is leaking. Is the problem related to the new air intake.

I had this problem after intalling my header. I just did a shit job of wiring and some of the wire got stripped and was grounding out on the chasis or something. So I did a good job wiring it and never had a problem again.

Even with bad O2 sensor the car will run. I had to play Sherlock Holmes for like 2 years with wiring and other BS to find shorts. I think possibly, after resetting the ECU this time it may have stopped blinking... (haven't looked yet). This passed storm has caused some problems. I think water got in through the door jam and got to the main relay... not sure, but my car was a little tempermental the last few start ups... runs great though. GL

HI

I have the same problem. I get Code 1. I changed the 02 sensor twice but it did not fix the problem. I checked the wiring but it looks good. The check engine light only comes on after drving over 55mph. Can anybody help???

Also the car seems to be running very rich (no mods. stock motor). I think this problem is related to my check engine light.

Thanks
