1. hey....i am currently doing a buildup on a 1986 GXL N/A and i REALLY like the look of the Turbo hood... i know it will bolt up, but would it be ok to use, even tho i dont have turbo? i Will be driving in the rain, so i dont wanna damage any thing....or is there a way to seal it, or is there a drainoff or anything for it?
2. what is the biggest wheel i can get and still be good performer...18s?
im not doing it for purley looks, but i want to look good. im thinking about the HP Racing chrome 18s ( forgot the name)....its a nice mesh wheel that i think will look good on with the black paint..( why are the only second gens ive seen that i like painted either white or black?)
3. Is there advantages of using the TURBOII transmission and rear end on a non turbo?I Will be tuning it but I don?t plan on adding boost anytime soon (unless I run across a good parts car for cheap).
Would these mods help out or would it be overkill?
3.5 how much can I expect to pay for a Turbo II Tranny and diffy?
thanks

1. it will help get the heat out of the engine bay, dont seal it
2. performance wise, go as small as your brake will allow you to. 18s will be slower, indeed.
i'd get myself some nice 16s', or FD stock rims
3. the diff/tranny is stronger, but you dont need more strenght if you stay n/a
3.5 rearend are sold for ~200$ and i think the price is the same for the tranny. youre gonna need the driveshaft too.

yeah, i have a tII hood on my n/a right now, not going to hurt a thing...actually helps i would say...weighs less, and ^ lets some air in!
opinion, but i think 18s would look like crap on an fc. 16s would be perfect. listen to ^

ok...thanks for the advise....but in the rain, the hood wont let in too much air in the intake? i dont wanna damage nuttin...
on the wheels, i thank you for the advise, and i think i will ALMOST do as u suggest.... ill comprimise for 17"s, no smaller, no bigger
will the tranny /diffy help acceleration or any other aspects? i hope for 200hp N/A at least...
thanks again

I think you need spacers for 17s...

you could get closer ratio rear end pinion & gear from a miata or an FD or on a T2 rear end, that would help acceleration but would 'kill' your high end speed.
the scoop on the hood is far from the intake.
with 17s' you are compromising acceleration and you are gaining weight on the wheels. you are not doing as we suggest.
it would be stupid as fuck to try to get a shorter rear end ration and waste the effort and get similar as stock performance just because of wheel fashion, plus you'll need more power to make these fucker spin.
this is my advice, get some 16s' unless you have enough power (something like Turbo power) or need to have bigger wheels because of larger brake disk. you cant have a very good looking car and keep it fast if you are staying on the cheap side.

I disagree with saying 17's are too big... if you buy cheap ones then yes they will be heavy but if you spend the extra cash for th enice ones they can be just as light as 16's

yea chrome sucks, and it is like 3 times heavier than your stock wheels

The way the RX-7s overheat I dont think extra air will hurt anything...and neither should the rain. At mazdaspeed.com...aka japanparts.com they make a spray cooldown kit for these...so it cant differ much from the rain.
