I need to know where or where about the MAP sensor is. I have looked in all of the Ford Books and they all have pictures of it but no one can tell me where it is. Can anyone help?!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Did you mean MAF sensor? cause I have no idea what is MAP sensor.... MAF ( Mass Air Flow ) Sensor is located by the air filter unit/housing, it is square black color and have electrical connector on it.

I was told by a couple of people that for the symptoms I have (Black smoke, ruff idle and BAD gas mileage) that the MAP was the part to change. We already changed the O2 sensors, the only thing that did was change the smell of the smoke. The MAP sensor’s job I was told was to measure the barometric pressure and set the fuel mix. And the diagnostic information described my problem to a T’. Thanks for you reply, I am going to keep looking and hope its not in vain.

Well... there are 3 O2 sensors in the car, which one did you change? Upstream or Dowstream? The Upstream O2 sensor in the exhaust provides a feedback signal to the PCM that indicates the amount of leftover oxygen int the exhaust, The PCM monitors this variable voltage continuosly to determine the required fuel injector pulse width and to control the engine air/fuel ratio. BTW is your check engine light on?

I changed the two O2 sensors just after the exhaust manifolds. The problem started about month ago, the check engine light can on, the car started to idle ruff and buck a little. Then the light would go out and the truck ran great again. Then the smoke started, it smelled like burning mothballs real sweet and would burn your eyes, then it would stop and the light would go out. After I changed the O2 sensors it changed the smell, while it still smokes black and smells it’s not as bad as it was before we changed the two O2 sensors. I took the truck to the dealer and they told me I needed to change everything, I find this hard to believe that every thing could go wrong at the same time and then be OK. The sensor I am told that will fix my problem is MAP/BARO Barometric Pressure sensor. The problem is I can’t find the darn sensor, we looked everywhere but can’t find it. Thanks for your help.

OK web...I have searched and found that there is no actual BARO sensor on MAF-equipped vehicles, except for the 3.8L Supercharged engine. Here is the technical service buletin number for your reference TSB 98-23-10 (Mass Air Flow Contamination) here is the link http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/TSB982310MassAirFlowContamination.htm you can clean the MAF sensor first.

ishop4less, THANKS! I will return the MAP. Do you think I should replace the MAF or the computer? I need to fix this smoke.
