I am in need of help. I have a 92 thunderbird. I has 51,000 orginal miles on it. I was driving to work and the odometer stop working. Is it run by a regulator. I do know that it is on the transmission. But I need to fix it. In need of some idea the garages around here are expensive!!!!

the odometer itself or the whole speedometer. The odometer runs off the speedometer. If its broke, replace the speedometer unit. You can get one from a 94-95 SC that reads to 145 mph and it plugs right in and will work with no other mods assuming you have an SC or atleast the 120 mph w/ tach gauges.

are you thinking of the speed sensor ?
that sets on the transmission

If the whole thing stopped working it may be the speedometer tooth gear in the transmission. Not hard to change.

The odometer tell us how many mile the car has traveled. The trip milage is not working either That is what is not working the speedometer is still working .

The speedometer works. Odometer and trip miles don't work.

It's internal then, the speedometer head itself might have a stripped gear inside. You can go to Ford and order a new one and tell them how many miles you have or expect to have in say a week and it will come set to that reading. Or if its not a big deal to you just leave it as it is.

try driving down the road and push the reset a few times see if its starts working again. I've had the trip meter not read for a while but a little fiddling with the button makes it work. But the top odometer itself has always worked on my birds. one of them now reads 200718.6 miles.

My old 92 did that. I just never worried about it.

That did not help I tried that. The odometer does nbot work it only has 58,000 orginal miles on it. My Great uncle own it. when I got it. it only had 38,000 mile. What would make it stop working.

I bet that'll solve the problem, plus a 145 speedo would be cooler anyways. And on that subject... would those SC gauges fit in a 96 LX?
