Driving with a lowered car.

Alright guys. I don't hang out with any friends who are into getting mods and stuff for their cars, so I can't really learn any of the basics. This is why I am posting. I just need to know a basic strategy for driving over bumps and dips and stuff like that. By the way, what car heaight would you suggest for a n00bie like me with 17" rims? My logical guess would be on bumps to take it in at an angle if possible, anything to make sure at least one wheel is on the bump so it doesn't bottom out, and for everything else to just take it slowly. Again, I am a major n00bie and strive to be the wise sages that you all seem to be, so please no flamming, just some helpful tips. Thanks.

well, if you don't drop it too much, you might not even have to do that. But just in case, yeah, you got it right. Also when you go down steep hills or if your coming out of a parking lot and there's a bit of a dip, make sure your coming out at an angle so that one wheel goes down first, then the second. Also you might not be able to park in driveways (well, you can, you just have to be very careful), I used to have to back into my garage (my car wasn't lowered, but I had a bodykit on my car, and I wouldn't make it up the driveway without smashing the front end), so you might have to do that. I hope this helps.

yeah man ...and when u go on curbs try to drive with one wheel on the curb and the other off...it just seems to help...and if something did hit...its only on one side and not twice as bad...and i've even parked in the street cuz the driveway or bump was so bad cuz my car is low as hell with a black widow kit and its been abused by the streets here in san antonio bad...good luck...and remember..if it looks like it will mess up your car...chances are...it probably will..haha...good luck man..

You both have been quite helpfull. I wanna know what a good height is for my car. I've got 17's and was thinking of maybe 1 ½"

Indeed, I went from stock to -1.3" to -1.9" and I'm saving for a set of Koni Yellows to go even lower.

I avoid speed bumps and inclines like the plague :)

If you have to drive over a speed bump I drive at it at a 45 degree angle or so very slowly.

you should be able to drop your car about 2 inches. you should go w/coilovers so you will be able to adjust the height anytime you want to.

Yea. I'm going to get coilovers, but whats the different between single and dual ones? Is it worth the extra $100 to go dual?

And also, About how much does it cost to get these installed? If anybody knows any places where I can get them installed for cheap in the Southern California area around 1 hour south of LA, lemme know.

my non-lowered civic front bottom hits the ground on one of my friends driveways, doubt i will be lowering mine anytime soon and if i ever do i will want adjustable coilovers

Actually it`s not too hard to install the springs yourself....if you have a jack...2 stands and basic tools....and a spring compressor....you`ll have no problem. I did mine myself today at an auto hobby shop and it took me about three hours....but that was also figuring out how to do it first ( front )....after I did...it onlt took me about 45 minutes to do the rear. Just lift it up and look at it...there`s only about four bolts all together

unless its cause you never have time, do it yourself. it was the first mod to my car, and i did it myself blindly. all you need are the right tools and its a piece of cake. youre gonna be rackin up some big bills if you pay for all your mods. shops charge up the ass for simple things because of their outrageous hourly rates and exagerated estimated times.
