A6 powered Del Sol?

Ok heres the deal. I have a 91 HB Si. Currently it is getting a built for turbo Y8 put in it. After I get the turbo put on and the interior finished I want to find another car as my daily driver.

My friend has a Del Sol that has some body damage on it. Well he found another Del Sol at a salvage yard for $450. It has no motor,hood, front fenders, or front bumper. He is going to use the rear fenders, trunk(this one came with a spiler), and the doors(his has some dents in them and he's to lazy to take them out.

Well I decided that I will buy the frame from him and he will give me all the old parts off of his (I'll just knock the dings out and do some fiberglassing).

Well I have a A6 that I can rebuild and use as an engine. How would I go about this? I know it will fit right in but what about tranny and wiring harness? I'm pretty sure I can just get a tranny from a 92-00 civic d series correct?

Yeh it'll fit but you will need the hydro tranny from 92 and up. You will have to convert it to OBD1 or OBD2 which ever. Damn it sounds like the del sol you're getting needs alot of work. I think you should just find something else. Its up to you though.

yeah and thats going to be one Del Slow. i'd look for something else to drive around.

Here's what you will need to do engine wise:

Get a hydro tranny (I have one, $150 and it's yours).

Probably want a new clutch now while it is easy.

Put the intake manifold and distributor for a EG or EK (depending on what year sol it is, I also have a set for an EG if you need them).

Mild wiring will be required, the a6 has some sensors in different spots on the block, just lengthen the wires.

I know this (and have spare parts) because I went the other way and put a Y7 into my friends CRX.

Umm thats converting to obd1 or 2 ;) He would also need the fuel injectors.

ANd what i meant alot of work i didn't mean engine wise. I meant that he basically needs lots of body parts for the sol.

Re-plug: I have everything to do that, i got a Y7 that came w/ everything (even the engine harness) and i swapped my a6 stuff onto it to put it in a CRX.

Well it is a lot body wise, but I will be getting the frame and all body panels from front clip back. So all I need is fenders, hood, and front bumper. I have an extra set of rims and will take my friends axels since he is going b series.

I can get a new OEM front for about $90, new fenders for about $50 a piece, and will go with a cf hood which will set me back about $400(shipped) Then I will be putting my Si seats in since I am buying racing seats for mine.

The reason I am using the A6 engine is because it will be coming out of my Si so it's "free". The rebuild kit is about $300 and about another $300-$400 in machine work.

After all the parts and everything I'm shooting for about $2k-$2.5K for a complete del sol. Also yes I know it will be slow, like I said I am looking for a daily driver not a car to race. The big 4G Si will be for that ;)

I'd rather get a full sohc vtec swap if you're gonna spend that much.

Well the A6 is free so I think I will stay with it. I might go ahead and just buy a SOHC Vtec head to throw on.

You can find a complete sohc vtec motor for 400-900 at the most. Just a suggestion. ITs really up to you. :)

True I might just do that. Try to find a Z6 or Y8 to throw in there. For the price of the rebuild kit I could prob. pick one up out of the salvage yard. Who knows...we'll see. Might go A6 with port and polished Y8 head and Y8 pistons. That should be fun.

He said something about syncros in tranny but who cares its still cheap for a good donor swap..Later man..

Thats a long way away from here. Also I don't have the money right now cause my Y8 is getting built/put in.
