air box

this is a stupied question but is it bad to run my teg with the air filter box lid off. if u take it off it looks like a ram intake because it has a round filter. (maybe it would work in kinda of the same way)

using your stock paper filter? Should be okay for a little while.

It'll be fine. It may get dirtier faster than it would with the cover in place, but other than that- no problem.

what year is ur integ? im not too sure how the newer designs are for the newer models since i drive a sec gen, but they should atleast be similar with my model. the air induct where air comes in the air tube is in front of the engine above the radiator, so it takes in air similar to a cai. the problem with this design is that there is too many twist and turns and its length to finally reach the intake manifold. another reason, the stock air filter and resonator. if u remove the lid what ur doing is dirting ur filter quicker than it has to be and now ur inducting hot air straight from the engine bay, not good.

I have a 97 it looks like a ram intake. but wouldnt it work about the same. a ram intake would pick up the hot air also right? mine doesnt have many turns only 1

this would one of the problems of sri, they get heat soaked if left idling.

so if its not left idling for awhile it would be alright ?do u think it would add alittle hp or would it just be to jank of a system.

if its not left idling, a sri would be alright since ur getting atleast somewhat closer to an ambient temperature from the incoming air. im not too sure what ur asking with the second question.

theres been several tests, some came to the conclusion that it gain several hp in the upper rpms. other test show that it lost power in comparison to its stock counterpart. at the end, the decision is up to u if u want to purchase it or not.

heres a tip from me if u want both worlds, ready? buy a cai intake and cut the pipe before it goes into the fender. now go to any motorsports and purchase a tubing and wrap that around the pipe making sure it securely fits. leave the tubing to make it into a cai intake for the summer. take off the tubing and install the air filter to turn it into a sri in the rainy season, if ur so scared of hydrolocking, but i have to say i been through some rough storms and my car is still fine.

this was what i was forced to do when i purchased my air bypass valve, but found out they gave me the wrong model that didn't fit my aem pipe. doing some research i found out the bypass valve didn't even work until the filter is submerged and that the bpv hurted performance, so i just got my money back, and the thought of turning it into cai and a sri was pretty ingenius.

It's basically similar to what Mustang owners do when they remove their silencers. In Mustangs, when the tapered rubber tube that pulls air from the f/r wheel well is removed, it leaves an exposed filter in an oval plastic housing. Although it pulls air directly from the bay, it's a common cheapo mod that most owners say will yield a small gain. I've seen your set up (my brother has your car). I don't know if it would help you much, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. Try it for a while and see. If I where you though, I'd just get rid of that whole hulking mess and get an intake...
