i have a 99 Grand Am GT. driving home tonight my battery light (which is not even a yr old) came on...before i reached home every light on the dash was on=- battery, ABS, airbag, handbrake...i lost my headlights, my dashlights, my radio, so i put my emergency flashers on- they were dim, but they came on a little - got home and shut my car off- then nothing- she wouldn't start. please tell me what you know. this car has cost me a small fortune- just this week and last month- i had to replace the front 2 wheel beerings.....not a cheap job!!!

yes, it's your alternator. I just had this happen to my car 2 weeks ago. Everything just died, including my instrument panel itself. I couldn't tell how fast I was going or even how much gas I had. Basically, I was running on my battery until I drained it also. I purchased a rebuilt alternator for about $130, probably got ripped off, but everything is going strong now. It was fairly easy to change myself as it is located up front by the passenger side. Hope this helps.
