pads/rotors job? special tools?

whats involved with this brake job? is there anything special that i need to know ei:removing the steering knuckle to get the rotor off, or is it pretty straight forward? friend of a friend wants me to do the job, but i couldn't give a quote since i've never worked on one before. thanks.

There's not really any special tools needed for the job. As long as you have a metric socket set along with either allen sockets or male torx sockets (can't remember which ones the rotor takes, I believe it's allen on the ML).
You DO NOT have to take off the steering knuckle for this job. All you need to do is remove the brake caliper, it's held on by two bolts on the back of the steering knuckle. You are supposed to replace those bolts as well, they should come with the kit. Mercedes brakes are really easy to work on, you'll soon find this out. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask, I'm a Mercedes technician. :)

I heard that you're also supposed to replace the plastic brake wear sensors with every brake job as well, is this correct?

Yes, this is true. They should come with the brake pad kit but you may need to ask for them.
