newby question

i think my 89 RS is ready for an oil change ...i havent had it for that long so i dont know what oil they used before i had it...dont know how to contact the people either so ...what oil brand and wheight would you pros recomend its a 89 RS its a V6 its got 43k miles on it ...thanks

A standard 10w30 oil is fine! if its gettin colder, 5w30 is good too.. I dont reccommend synthetic for an older engine like that..
I use Esso Extra.. a lot of guys like mobil 1, or pennzoil.. matter of opinion.. Just dont get real cheap stuff

actually I just re-read your post.. the cars only got 43k miles, so its still pretty young.. If I were you, ide use a brand name fully or semi synthetic 10W30..

Umm.. I think Hypsi posted results of a test he did with a few different brands of filters.. But sorry I dont remember how it went.. BUt I do remember that the K&N oil filter did very poorly..

I still wouldnt switch to synthetic oil even though the car has lower miles. The seals and everything inside are still fairly old and I would just stick with a normal 10w30 oil. I use castrol and for filters I use a quakerstate or something half decent, not the cheapest one they sell.

I started running synthetic in my Z when I first got it at 170,000 (HARD) km's and never had a problem burning or leaking oil.. It started much nicer and the oil pressure built up sooner, especially in the cold months

Fram is the other four letter F word. Fram has no check valve to prevent dry starts. Use them if you want but I havent heard anything good about them since they first came out years ago, only heard bad things for a long time now. The guys at my shop all hate them. I would suggest a delco. Never had a problem with motorcrafts on my fords.

I think they have different kinds you can use. You can go with the cheap oil change or you can step upto like a semi synthetic or full synthetic. I dont know which brands they use but im sure they are all different depending on which place you go to.

I use mighty, but you really can't get your hands on them...there supplied to pro mechanics with shops, that's how I get them. If I where you I would use the best thing autozone has, I think it's delco. The only thing good about fram, is the grip. As far as oil goes I would use a semi synthetic oil on your engine. that would probably be your best bet.

in my 93 i use Quaker State 5W30 for higher mileage cars.. and a quaker state filter.. havent had any problems.. changed every 3000
