another jetta ? on power steering

i want to know if the power steering system can be removed and how or what i need to do so. got 96 jetta p/s pump is screeeeeming bloody murder can anybody help me out with this.thax

It would be easier, and cheaper, to replace the pump. Otherwise you'd have to replace the whole rack unit with a manual unit (if they're available).
