Body Kit + Ground Clearance

I have a 98 Accord Sedan with H&R Sport Springs and Tokico Illuminas. I really want to put a body kit on the car but im a little hesitant for one reason. Although I have no complaints about my ride quality, I will bottom out on a rare ocassion and scrape my front bumber. Im worried that after installing a body kit, I will bottom out on one of those occasions and fuck my body kit up. So after all that rambling, can anyone give me an idea of how much ground clearance a body kit will take away compared to a OEM front bumper? Or if anyone has a similar setup, have you had any problems with a body kit on the car? Keep in mind I live in Boston where the potholes are huge and its almost impossible to not hit one. Thanks for any help as this is my first post - Carlos

i dont know how low your car is from stock height so i will just gues that it is lowered about 1.8 - 2.0 inches? well depending on the kit you will probably have about an 1.0 - 2.? inches of cearance. this is only an estimated guess of course.

like my car, i was riding at stock height with an r33 front and i would scrape going up hills. took it off for now, waited a long time for that bumper. dont wanna mess it up.

theres my :2cents:

Body kits are generally longer than stock...to give the lowered look w/o lowering so if you are scraping now it will be worse with a kit... I Have neuspeed progressive rate spring on my 5thgen (~2.0 inch drop) and there is no way i could have a body kit and drive it on a daily basis...it would last a week.

You might consider just getting a front lower air dam replacement...it will at least be cheaper if in fact you destroy it.

I was kind of hoping to get away with a little less ground clearance with the kit on since i only have it dropped 1.5" F and 1.2" R and not 2" like most people. Thats why I was asking about the difference in OEM and kit bumbers. I was hoping that the extra 1/2" I have in ground clearance compared to others would still let me get by with a slightly larger kit bumper.

is the air dam like the wings west kits?

yes WW make this type of kit and it's a lot easier to take off if it is hitting the ground since it just bolts on and you don't have to replace the whole front bumper...try getting the dimensions of the kit you want and measuring on your car...this will at least give you an idea of how close to the ground you will be...really the only problem you may have is with the front bumper the rest should be okay

Normally A body kit is longer than the stock kit. So if you're scraping now, it will only be worse with a full body kit. The only thing I can recommend is to a lip kit. Xenon & WW makes a lip kit that looks great
