I am 17 and I am looking at getting a 91-95 MR2 N/A the question I have is would an insurance comapany call the N/A a sports car??? I don't want to spend more than 250 a month on insurance do you think that is reasonable??

From what I have seen, the insurance on the MR2 does not vary a great deal between the NAs and the turbos ... at least here in Pennsylvania.

"Would they consider it a sports car?"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

ahem... all right. I'm 18, have a perfect record, got EVERY discount, have the whole family under the same company (state farm)... and it costs me $200 a month LIABILITY ONLY... for my 91 NA.

Get used to it :( Or get married hehe

drazhartd, it is LIABILITY, no RELIABILITY :)

... or do you have your car insured in case it breaks down? :D

I am also on a family package plan and live in Calfornia. We have 4 cars and 2 houses on the same plan which gives us a better deal. This is what they told me. I am 21 with a perfect record. The thing that makes my insurance what it is (1800 a year) is the fact that it is a 2 door and that it is red. Yes thats right my insurance is more because my car is freaking red. Oh and as far as NA to turbo...I was quoted by the same people that a turbo model was going to be 1000 dollars more a year. I decided that was a bit rediculous. I guess it all depends on the insurance company too.

I have full insurance by the way. The best plan they offer.

Thank you for all the relpies they were very helpful drazhartd as fas as i know insurance doesn't start going down until around the age of 21 for guys so I don't think the age from 17 to 18 will make much of a difference.

look into performance driving schools. some ins companies offer discounts for additional driver training, and i'm pretty sure jim russell racing school has a teen program that's travelling the country right now. if they're coming anywhere near you, i'd take advantage of it- not only because it could save you money, but because it could save your life as well. it's definitly worth looking into.

My quote came out to a little over 1200...or about 200 a month...that's the turbo also...full coverage: deductibles 500/500 with liability at 100/300/50

which is less than what I'm paying for my 2002 sentra spec v and it has 500/1000 with 50/100/25 or whatever the minimum is...

I also live in maine so that helps a lot.
