My '02 Sub Z71 just lost its power steering. Was riding in heavy rain with water on road. In AWD mode. After a tight turn power steering died. Power fluid level a-ok. Recently had recall work done on steering column. Are these related? Or has anyone experienced total loss of pwr steering that quickly, or in these conditions?

I have the same car and the same problem. The power steering went out when backing up at a moderate turn in 4wd in 1 1/2' of snow. Have you found a solution to this problem?

I've got a 2000 Suburban, and the power steering would sometimes bind up when taking a turn. It took the dealer forever to figure it out. They replaced the power steering pump, column parts, and a few more, finally at about 50K they replaced the steering box, and that solved it. They also replaced everything under warranty. Hope this helps.

Just yesterday, my suburban did the same thing, one second the power steering was ok, then suddenly it was completely gone. What were you able to find out about your power steering problems?

My wife's 2002 is doing the same thing. On first start in the morning, it seems like power steering is gone, but then starts working. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

If you do your own work I think you are going to need a rebuilt rack and pinion. Yours probably has leaking seals. This was a common problem on older chevrolets. I used to buy them for around $150.00 but they are more at this time. Check with your parts store. About 4 hrs work at home. Be very careful and measure and count threads on the outer tie rod end. Write it down before starting. Make sure to install the screen for the oil pump.
