My 95 LT1 camaro is overheating and I cant figure out why. The thermostat is good, the water pump is fine, and I just had the radiator rodded out today. Am I looking at head problems? My "shade-tree" machanic friend thinks so, but I need to hear it from a "camaro guy". It seems like the water is not flowing through the radiator like it should. (even after rodding it out) When I remove the cap and start the car, it sucks the water down then starts burping it back out. When I put the cap back on, it pushes the water out through the over-flow jug. Please help!!!

ouch.. sounds like you could have a blown headgasket.. possibly a cracked head.. Check your oil.. Make sure it isnt going up or down, and check for milky white substance under your oil cap and on your dipstick.. Sure fire way is to get a compression test..

It seems that there might be a clogg in your radiator. However, if you just had that taken care of, I would check it again. Heads are expensive. When I my heads cracked on my trans am, I was leaking major fluid.

If the car was overheating and the t-stat got hot...then it is bad. Replace it again, and did you properly bleed the system? If so, check your oil...or hell take the #1 plug out and turn it over if spits water out at you then you're fucked! You're head gasket is blown. But yeah, a compression test is the sure fire way to tell.

when you put the water in before you started it did you open the bleeder valves to allow all the coolent to get in??? there are two of them... one on top of the t-stat and the second one is just under the intake elbow...

Is your fan coming on? Or is the problem occuring pretty quick? It does sound like you may have a clog in your radiator. Pull your upper & lower rad. hoses and flush it with a water hose to make sure its flowing good.
Then get a coolant system pressure test kit. Top the car off with water once you have the hoses back on and everything then pressurize the system. Be sure not to go over the psi the cap says, probably 16psi. This should start spraying coolant/water out of the leak. If nothing happens and the pressure stays the same for a few minutes try cranking the car. If the pressure drops then its your heads or head gaskets. If the pressure rises you need to look deeper into your problem and double check yoursekf to be sure the h2o pump, t stat, ect are good. Best of luck to ya.

Fixed it!!! twdz28, you hooked it up with those links. The info in that site was exactly what I needed. I just had to bleed the system, and I was idleing it without the thermostat. Obviosly I'm new to the LT1 world. Thanks alot man!!!

Should be at about the highest point in your coolant system. I think they are on or around the t-stat housing alot of times.

the lt-1 cooling system is a closed presuurized sys you keep cap on there are two bleed screws one thermostat housing & heater hose next to the alternator fill up the sys run the engine then open both screws to alow all the air out of system then close them make sure you have the proper mix of coolant & water the sys holds approx 15 qts ck the fan relays all three of them ck the radiator temp it should read in 30 degree difference ex 172 the 142 fm top to bottom you might have to buy a new radiator from napa for $207.00 they are the only parts store that carries the radiator i went through the same thing you are going through now i have a 94 z28
