Does your scan tool actually read abs faults? What was the failure of the passenger side wheel sensor? Are all the abs fuses good?Is there any movment in the frt hub bearings? If the trigger wheel is not directly below the sensor, the computer may not recognize the signal.I came across a 96 4x4 pick up with abs lite on,brakes worked fine, but the bearings in the hub were shot.Subsquently the sensor was not directly above the trigger wheel, but the sensor was servicable.I hope this helps you out.

I have the exact same problem with my '96. Do you recommend a book/manual that has drawings or diagrams of the front end? Also I have heard that the entire hub must be replaced if the abs sensor is bad, it this true?

Thanks.

Broke down on Friday and took my '96 into a service station. Had them plug the computer into my truck to search for abs codes. They couldn't get the computer to talk to my truck, was unable to get any codes. They told me my abs system was messed up to get any codes. Could be any of the wheel sensors or the abs control module or anything else. $50 to learn nothing.

PS-all fuses checked out ok.

Not sure what to do next?

I do believe that an ABS wheel sensor can be purchased separately. You may need to take your vehicle to a GM dealer to get some proper answers to your problem.Or a reputable shop that knows GM ABS.I came across a 99 silverado p/u with ABS lite on.After three days of working on it and talking to a dealership to get info,it was shipped to GM and found out that brake fliud got to the computer and did some nasty stuff inside.I hope this senario isn't the same for your vehicle, but if no info can be gotten from the ABS computer, then there could very well be serious problems. One thing that you can check.Ensure all vehicle grounds and the ABS controller ground is clean and secure.Good luck with your vehicle.Sorry I can't be of more help.

Nope i got a 95 swb 4x4 with the same problem. Only my whole front end was redone and now the light has been on for about 2 years. id say to hell with it. Itll pass inspection and eventually the damn thing will burn out. ABS still works.

I have a 95 which has had the abs light on for about 5-6 years now. Everyone who checks it says they can't get info and it will cost me about $1500 to fix. It brakes fine so I have left it alone. My truck now has about 150,000 miles on it and is doing okay.
