Who wants to judge? You have to know what you're doing when it comes to photography, and you won't be able to submit anything. Any volunteers?

What kind of contest? Best use of lighting, content, or something like that? Sounds good to me, but I don't know enough about photography to judge it so I'm out.

I can probably judge. I have been recently learning alot about photography when it comes to exposure to light and contrast.

Here's my entry for all-around beauty and use of color. Yeah, use of color, that's it:

To have a contest you need a theme that everyone can follow, and either a judge who knows what thier talking about, or a voting system where everyone simply votes for the best pic.
Since I don't think anyone here actualy has enough artisitc knowledge, skill or talent to be a suitable judge then it would require a vote.
This then means an online gallery is needed where all the pictures can be viewed in a format everyone has access to.
The voting would be easy, it could just be done in a thread, with with a poll, or by posts depending on the number of entrys.
Rules would need to be drawn up regarding allowed image size (something around 800 pixels and 150-170k) as well as use of photoshop and post proccessing.
It meeds to be moderated, and most importantly, it needs to have contributors who actualy know how to take pictures.
In this whole subforum I think there are maybe 2 or 3 pictures that are contest worthy, and they have only been submitted by 2 people. Not really enough IMO.
However, if you feel its doable, then by all means come up with a theme, an online gallery, a judging system, and start a contest.

^ I see that you made a great point. I think what needs to be also added in is the camera that was used, They should also tell what F/Stop they used, shutter speed and flash.

Actualy any contest is best judged anomosly.
i.e. no information is given about the photo, just the picture and prehaps a title. No username, no camera info, no exif information, nothing!
After the contest has been judged, then the winners name can be reveled, and people can claim what ever photos are theres. And things like exif information can be posted.
That way an bias is kept out of the contest, and the photos are judged on thier own merit.
However, in any general posts, especialy where someone wants some advice then like anything, the more information anyone has, then more help that can be given.
Posting even basic exif information is a good idea.

sounds like a good idea!
contests are always fun, and I'd love to see some good pics from you guys!
I have always been interested in photography, but have never had a good camera. I might just go borrow a good one from some family member if there is going to be a contest :iceslolan

I do agree with Moppie on all points and levels.
However, I dont think there should be a contest just yet. People still dont knoe this forum exists, except for a handful of us. I think we should wait for a little more popularity, and also a good background between whats a photo and whats a picture.
I by all means need to work on my photography for one and would really like to see a lot of work done by "photographers" before I would want to enter a contest.

Ya I just stumbled upon this section and like what I see. I have a Nikon D70 and have been taking some really nice shots. I would like to see if I can win the contest, if there is going to be one. Sounds like it would take alot of work and planing inorder to have a good contest going. Do you guys know what u have to do to get your pictures published or get paid for taking pics? And I dont meen taking weding photos. I like taking nature and micro shots.
Here is one of my shots that I took quickly as a praying mantis landed next to me as I was choping wood.
