I have a 98 jetta gt 2.0. It is an automatic transmission. I have replaced the starter and the ignition relay switch. Is there anything left but the ignition switch? This car is driving me crazy and poor at the same time. Thanks for the help!!!!

If it still wont crank there's also the park/neutral switch on the transmission. Is the anti-theft system operating properly?

Before just replacing the switch it may pay to check it. With key on in park does the red/yellow wire on pin #1 of the park/neutral relay (position 14) go to ground? Position 14 is on the upper two row add on section of the relay panel (not the lower two rows). It's the lower row, second from the left. Another way to look at it is third row from the bottom, second from the left. You should be able to move it into gear & lose the ground.

I only seem to have 2 rows of relays. i do have relays that are hanging plugged in to the plugs. Do you know the # on the relay?

It should be on the row right above the top row of the main panel, second from the left. Bentley manuals is the only place I believe that has the printed number available. All I can tell is it's position & that it has five electrical contact pins.

Anti-theft has a little red LED by the door lock button that flashes when the system is armed. The P/N relay is one of those that are clipped on above the main relay panel. I can only give the following pin/wire colors; Pin #1=red/yellow (ground from P/N switch), pin#2=red (hot at all times), pin #3=red/black (feedback to ECM), pin#6=red (hot from ignition switch in start position), pin#8=red/black (to started solenoid), pins 4,5,7 are not used. Pin #1 is the one you need to check that it goes ground in park/neutral. If you still can't find the relay go to the switch, the red/yellow switches to red/black in the harness & connects to pin #1 of the switch. Strip a piece of the wire (don't disconect the harness) & perform the same check there.
