Here are some pics of my cold air intake notice the custom support bracket all thanks to my friend jb weld. It is nice and low to the ground for the best air and has a bypass on it so i dont have to worry about water that much.

where does the bypass valve installed at?

i used a breather and it functions like a bypass. Think of it as a cracked straw if the crack in the straw the breather is above the water level the water will not pass that point. So the breather is my bypass now to how much water it can take i am not sure. Now i know for sure i will try my best to avoid puddles.

seriously thats one clean 420a.. almost makes me sick when i mentally compare it to mine lol.. but yeah the whole breather thing seems logical.. the brackets on my cai didnt come close to fitting.. but since it was so cheap it half wedged agiainst the battery and stuff so it dont move lol.. but mines one of the hot air by the airbox cai's so i dunt worry about water too much.. looks good tho way to be! peace

did u feel any preformance?

cbell77
09-18-2004, 08:08 AM
yes i felt good my torque increase in 2nd and 3rd gear. But with out a dyno i dont know about horse power. O and hellifiknow the brackets on my cold air intake did not fit ethier and they wanted me to put a rubber strap around it and screw it into the car. So what i did is i went to advanced auto picked up a box of jb weld and bent one of my brackets and then welded it to the pipe.

Thanks a lot of cbell, I've been wanting to do a cai but I never knew what the little tubes were for, now you posted pics I finally understand. Thanks!!. cai here I come.
Oh where did you get the breather?

Hey isnt like part of if sort of behind the radiator. So some of the heat coming off the radiator will still be sucked in? But yeah that is still hella better then a short ram short ram is 99% behind the radiator. Nice work dude.

you can get a breather ad autozone or advanced auto for $10 bucks and you get to choose your color

Hey cbell, does the car sound different with the cai installed? Like a deeper sound? I would love a deeper sound. I just purchased a cai and it should be sometime early next week. I can't wait!!!

it really doesnt make a difference overall, but you will hear air being sucked in when you rev. Dont worry you will like it (then it gets old after a while).

Good Luck!

Sorry to bring back a sort of old thread. My cai came in today and I'm really excited to put it on. However, I was comparing my cai to the one cbell installed in his car, mine doesn't have that extra little tub thing he has where he put an extra breather on right on top of the air filter. What should I do, is it ok to not have an breather? My main worry is water being sucked up. Is there anything else I can do other then drill a whole or anything like that? Thanks.

Man, so I just finished putting my cai in. I didn't expect it to be that big of a pain in the ass. Me and my roomate spend about an hour and a half putting the whole thing in. My didn't fit too well either, so it now wedged up against the battery. My cai is a little different from cbells', my filter is right behind the air inlet hole next to the driver side fog light, instead of cbell's behind the radiator. I guess that would be a good place to get air, but it confused the hell out of me since I was using cbell's pictures as a how to tutoria. Thats why it took me so long, I kept moving the tubs little by little untill I can figure out where everything goes. But its all in place now, so hopefully is all good. I'll take some pictures tomorrow or something to show you guys. Now I'm gonna go drive around :p

what does the air breaher do?

what does the air breaher do?

The air breather is just like if you think about a crack in the straw, when you try to suck in water with tha straw, the water will only get as high as that crack, cause then you would loose the air pressure. So the breather on the cai act as a crack, if your main filter sucks in water, water will only go as far as the breather, this way your engine won't get flooded and it would still get air if you drive through some water.

You know, maybe I'm just being pranoide but I was thinking today after I put my cai on. Since mine is right behind the air inlet next to the fog light, wouldn't the filter get wet in like rain? If it gets wet, would I risk hurting my engine? Also, I'm worried about those automatic car washes that you drive through, would that flood my engine also? I guess my biggest worry is flooding or getting water into my engine. Someone please tell me that I'm ok.

it can get damp or wet without causing any damage.. it practiaclly takes it being completly submerged in water for it suck up water and cause hydrolock.. i wouldnt worry too much...
