turn signal/hazard problems

Greetings,
I have a 2000 5-door Golf w/ 30,000+ miles. When I flip the turn signal bar, the light just goes on, it doesn't blink. Same with the hazard lights. It started about a year ago. The turn signals wouldn't work for a day then would start working. This happened about 5 times and then the turn signals worked fine for, at least, 8 months.

In the last month, the problem has returned and the turn signals will only work correctly (flash) for the first 2 minutes of driving. Perhaps related to how hot car is? Or outside? It's September in LA now. Problem got bad in August.

Took car in 2 days ago for 30,000 mile service. Of course, turn signals worked perfectly at dealer and the "computer" couldn't find anything wrong with system. They said they had not heard of that problem.
Have looked on-line but can't find anyone with same problem.

Have double-checked to make sure all lights are on when turn indicator is activated but not flashing, so I don't think it's a bulb. Have never had any fast flashing and both sides of car are affected equally. Have read posts on socket meltings, but would bulbs still work? Have read posts on Passat thread about how to replace flasher fuse (or switch?) on a 1999 Passat, but is that the same setup as a 2000 Golf?

Any help greatly appreciated. I know almost nothing about cars, but DH can replace fuses and stuff like that.

hello
i had the same problem with my 2001 Golf. The dealer pinpointed it to the Hazard light module. He says that in 2000 the Turn Signals and Hazard flashers were integrated into a single module. He said it was a pretty common failure. Take it to another dealer and have them check it.
