Hitting Lottery for $40Million..What Happens?

First off, lets pick a number, lets say 40 million. First, i already know that all that will be taken out taxes etc will be around 55-65% if you decide on one lump sum payment (which i would :-) Now, after all the taxes etc, you got around 14Million, which is insane. What happens now.. Does the lottery set you up with lawyers/accountants etc to put the money in ?what? Lets say you only got a checking account, like me, what happens to your money? I'm guessing they have it all planned out and set you up with a secure account or what not.

LOL, i always said that if i see i got all the numbers right, i would wait and check (silently) about 5 711's and a couple conveniance stores, AND the internet (lottery site) to MAKE sure i wasn't dreaming.. I bet the day i'll win for like 100Mill, 150 other people would have gotten the numbers also :-(

Right off the bat:

-1992 Black Slicktop 300ZedX, stripped to bare una-body, beadblasted and re-furbished 100%
-VG30DETT base block
-Single turbo conversion
-NISMO/Border hybrid Injection 850cc
-Fully built bottom end and upper end
-Single plenum conversion
-Cryogenically treated engine components
-Basically every engine part replaced, or rebuilt
-Fairlady Front fascia, rear valence, side skirts (would have to be fabbed up... REAL Fairlady side skirts only came on 2+2s), Taillights, and projectors (about 5grand right there, haha)
-Custom made deep lip black three peice racing wheels
-Every possible component that can be, would have a Carbon Fiber (or Kevlar) part made in its stead. Painted to look stock. (i.e fenders, hood, rear hatch etc)
-Custom made 6speed gear box single peice driveshaft, and rear end
-Brembo 13inch brake system
-Fully built suspension

... That would be about 120grand... Well worth it in my honest opinion :D

O... And with the rest of the money... Umm... Err... I would keep a million, and use the rest to start an organization to assist young inventors in fulfilling their dreams... Wish someone would do it for me.

Let me first say that as far as I know, your given the money in yearly "salarys".
Now as for the money....
Id buy AF the best server possible but only if I got to be a mod.
I would buy almost every single sony product available.
Now to the rides...
2003 Nissan 350Z painted flat black with a set of black Volk TE37s.
Also a 1949 Mercury with a chop top in Flat Black and on air bags.
Id probably buy a big house with the rest.

Financially speaking if anyone has more than 5 million dollars, in my opinion, it's not smart to have it all in one bank account. Seeing how the FDIC only insures up to $100,000 it's better to diversify the cash into several accounts at several different banks. I would also deposit money in swiss banks as well as invest quite a bit of it. All I have to say since you mention you only have a checking account, start taking money out of your pay check and open a savings account. Look towards the future and remember you will retire one day and if you don't invest or save any money now, even if you do get a nice retirement plan from your employer you're setting yourself up to be living the last years of your life with very little money.

When it comes to money always think long term.

10 million would make me another 10 million within a couple years. Before long I could get it in the 100 million range and retire. Have a ways to go before the 10 million mark though - but I'm on my way. :icon16:

Wow, i didnt know you guys in the US immediately lose a chunk of the winnings to taxes. It's not like that here in the UK, so once i get my millions, i do the following:

Buy myself a £5-6m house on my fave street in London, buy a handful of cars (not totalling over £500k), spend a good chunk on family, and invest the rest myself.

That is a shockingly high tax rate you guys have there.... I'd move to the Cayman Islands, buy a house in Mission Bay (Auckland, New Zealand) and a Jaguar XJR for that house, an Apartment on the Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia) and a Ferrari F355 Spider for that house and an Apartment in Genoa for when I'm in Europe. Then modestly invest in about 6-7 nice cars for my pernament residence.....

After that the rest goes into investment.....

Assuming $US14 million = approx. 22 million AUD,

Invest 15 million in a diversified portfolio including property and shares on a number of different stock markets.

The other 7 million I would spend on a huge house (think 8 double bedrooms, 5 storeys) that I would live in with whoever the hell out of my friends wanted to live there.

I would buy out my company, leave the structure in place and give everyone a $10k p/a pay rise.

Buy a BMW M3 and deck it out to the hilt.

The rest I would simply spend on a more extravagent version of my current lifestyle.

Well, if I won it in NZ, I don't see why the government take any more than 40% of it, so that leaves about US$25 million, which is about NZ$33 million.

With that I'd pay off all my Uni education, I'd build a massive "Party mansion" in the most exclusive part of Wellington (wherever that may be...)- in which I'd put up about 6 or 7 friends, then buy an CL65 AMG Benz, Lamborghini Murcielago, BMW E46 M3, HSV GTS 300, Lancia Delta Integrale, Fraser Clubman, Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato and Honda Integra DC2 Type R and build the Honda Civic show-go car I've always wanted to do, following that give some to my folks and then chuck it into investments in some well run companies (I would want a 25-40% return on my investment) and the property market.

Got room for my T80 in there?

In NZ, the government can't lay it's filthy sticky fingers on your hard won dosh because they're winnings and not earnings. They can, however, pick up the 40% or whatever it is on the interest earned as that counts as earnings.

Oh yeah, I'd make the Wellington Vice HQ. Searchlights, a bunker, room for all the Vice mobiles, strip club, complementry bar, and a kennel out the back for Blindside so Vice can stand on the balcony with their champers and laugh laugh LAUGH.

Cheers! *chink*

Your obsession with me has to stop, Reese. I told you a thousand times, I'm not gay. There are plenty more of guys in LA you can date, a lot of them gay too. But not me, sorry. :nono:

As I do not have eceedingly bad taste, I fear you are only flattering yourself.

Hmmm 14 Million in one lump sum. Woohoo.

Okay lets see...
1 Million to buy the land and build a house big enough for my family & cars,
500,000 to divide up between all my friends that believed in me in the past and helped me in getting through life.
500,000 to my nieces/nephew for schooling,
200,000 for vehicles for everyone in my family (thats a lot of Hyundais) :naughty: (ummm maybe not, they can't drive)
Probably a bmw convertible for cruising,
create my own Hyundai pickup at one of those California shops,
Buy a boat
Go on a cross country trip,
Go on a around the world trip,
Invest about 10 million in stocks and bonds
Give to charity

Can't think of anything else. Oh yeah, give all the mods the proposed raise that Igor promised last year. :p

TS out (playing lottery tickets)
