Wait, I still don't understand what happened in Jane's mother's womb. Can anyone explain it a little more clearly?

i have taken a few biology courses, but we havent stumbled upon this. if i could explain it i would.
in my understanding it is during the replication stage of mitosis that there is a crossover between these paired genes. one that is not supposed to happen. its just sooo confusing. i am searching for more studies.
