Is being rich really a good thing?

Ok, being rich (that is son or doughter of a rich person who worked their asses off to get to the level they are at) seems really fun. you buy anything, you drive a pimped out m3 or a freaking bently. Your parents give you money to do anything. I personally don't like that life. The reasons are that there is nothing to work for, no goal in life. Rich asses a lot of times do drugs, cause they have extra money to spend. Now middle class people are normal. They have something to work for, have money to live and are usually happy in life. Being poor probably sucks (definitly sucks) you need to work your ass for everything. And these people usually end up selling drugs to rich kids.
I enjoy my life being between poor and middle class (I am an optimist)
and want to become rich. I want to do anything with cars.
What would you rather be (what class) and what is your opinion on these classes. Notice I said USUALLY for all the classes. There are a lot of exeptions.

i dont think i would like life born into wealth... one reason, people like that dont kno what they have... since i consider myself inbetween middle class and medium rich i would be able appreciate having a lot of money... being able to get things i could before instead of always being able to have it

Good subject Pavlo. I myself believe working for your own, benefits your mind and soul. Becoming rich must be awesome. I would help so many people around me that are genuine, and are hard lower-middle class workers. I have friends that really had it rough, so helping out others would be one of my first's.

Born into money.. I'm glad i ain't. I wish i had a father to help support me and my brother, and not just leave and show up in the picture 14 years later and wonder "why" we don't call him that much. My mom grew me and my bro up and we had it rough.. still living in a 1 bedroom apt (3 adults mind you). LOL, i still have NO room. Me and my bro used to share the room, but we sleep totally differant hours so it don't work out.. Anyway, i appreciate what i have MUCH more than "some" of my rich friends. They're not rich, but well off. 3 of which had EVERYTHING PAYED FOR.. EVERYTHING.. Car insurance, gas, college, food, rent..etc..

They are good friends, but example #1, when i was in a bad car wreck (100 other driver fault confirmed by PD) they where like, "oh, it's just a car"... I almost beat the shit out of all of them, cause i worked my tail off for 2 years for that pup. To them, oh daddy would buy a brand new one..

One thing i will honestly convey.. money and "things" are fake, thats how i look at it. The only thing you take to the other side is love. The here and now it's important for you to find a "career job" to be spotlighted in society.. Make money..etc. One thing i can honestly say though, i want to hit the lottery :-)

This is a highly subjective question...but since your not asking "which is better" but rather "which do YOU think is better" its all good, and i will play along.

as much as anyone (especially on this forum) would say that they would enjoy financial stability in order to havce a good house and especially a good car, i will have to differ.

i would really, actually, prefer to have the fewest personal possessions possible. the more i have, the more dependant i would become on them for my existence. take for example, cell phones. i am one of the many unfortunate creatures to actually own one, but i never use it, i never take it anywhere, i basically just leave it at home and use it as a home line if needed. why? because becoming one of those people who says "i dont know how id function without it" scares me. same with lot of things. my computer moniter blowing up this summer was one of the best things that ever happened to me (its back now, obviously, cuz i need it to type papers for school...as hypocritical as that may be.)

the point being, the more i have, the worse off i feel. i wish i could show you all a picture of my room. one bed, one computer stand, one computer, bunch of books, closet full of a weeks worth of clothes. thats how i live, and thats how i like it.

Me? I'm making my own way.

My dad's unemployed at the moment, and mum is working full time, and being a mum in her spare time (when she's not working) supporting me and my brother.

Up until I was about 18, I needed shit bought for me, I didn't have a job, and I just started uni. Now (still am 18) I have a job I'll be buying my own shit, and learning to live on my own, independently, and I think that's the best lesson anyone can have in life. Period.

The easy route is to have it all handed to you. But if it's handed to you, how would ever be able to appreciate it?

If my parents were rich and had the money to do that for me, i think i would have milked it when i was younger. But now, i think i'd just be asking them to take care of me in their wills; let me inherit it. First i need to know what it is to work for everything, so i'll appreciate it more later on.

But i'm already a rich man. I have God, i have great friends, i have parents and brothers that love each other, i'm blessed to know my Grandparents at this point in my life, i have a reliable old car, i have a nice basement apartment, i have food to put on the table and nice clothes to wear, and i'm paying for an education that will find me a career that i will love.

Money may make you wealthy, but i believe that being truly rich isn't what is in your wallet, it's what's in your heart.

Its not about the money - its how you live your life.

I am middle-poor class, I am 15 and 4 month and for the first time in my life I just got my own room. All my life I shared room with my older sister.
But I don't care much that I am not rich. I agree with some one saying that life does not depend on being rich, it's how you live it. I am an optimist, so is my family and even though we don't have that much money (3200 a month for a family of 4) I think we live pretty good. And when are being optimistic all these good things just keep on coming.

Its not about the money - its how you live your life.

I agree. Money is all relative. It can be very helpful, but it can also be very destructive. I would consider my family to be the lower part of the upper middle class. It hasn't always been that way, but my dad busted his ass to get to where he is today. I don't take anything I have or receive for granted. Being an only child also makes things a bit different in the fact that there are no other kids to support.

Therefore, I do get nicer things. But I never brag or talk about anything I have. Hell, when I first got my truck if someone asked me what I drove I would simply say a Silverado, but my friends would chime in with but its got this and that and I was just like they don't need to know that. If they ask then I'll tell them. I've been thankful enough to be taught the value of a dollar and how to invest or save my money and keep out of debt.

I'll end in saying that money does not bring happiness. It can make a lot of things better, but if you have trillions of dollars but you're all alone you're not going to be as happy as you could be.

money is simply a means of aquiring what you want/need to live a happy life. it is not, in itself, a thing to have.

you reach a saturation point. and at that point, it becomes irrelevant to have any more money.

where that saturation point is, is up to you

Lets face it. You can be a great person no matter where you are financially, but we all know that life with lots of money is preferable to life with little money.

im 16 right now, and in my area you really see like 3 main classes of people:
You got this one town where all the really rich, seven-figure income families live, and theres like 10 of those families. Then, theres my part of town, where we're doin real well, like $140k a year for the 4 of us. Then, you have the poor families, and theres only a few of those, but theyre all hispanic and indian and they live up on the hill.

The big difference you see is that the really rich kids do get into alot of drugs, in fact all the dealers are spics that sell to the richies. The poor kids have it rough, i know alot of them rent 2 bedroom houses and tis awful. But I def think people are most happy where I am right now, which is smack in the middle of middle class.

Lucky for me, parents are makin me pay for my car, and insurance, gas, the whole works. I really wouldnt wanna be a rich douchebag like my friend who was just bought a g35 for getting his license. I like where i am, middle class 0wns

I say you can be happy no matter what your income is, but if I would have to choose I would love to be filthy rich! I consider myself a sane enough person that i would be able to handle it without going crazy and all that. I grew up dirt poor and now I feel rich cuzz i got a good job, but i would love ot have so much more money. i would love to be able to tell my parents they can retire finally. I would love to be able to take my gf on trips around the world. I would definitly splurge on myself too, but I'm not selfish i would help out all my friends. I can't believe so many people chose middle class. either you really mean it or you just dont want anyone to think ur a greedy jerk or something. I mean working gives you a sense of accomplishment, but you spend 8 hrs working everyday. So its like you are losing a third of your prime years working. that seems like such a waste to me.

I would consider myself mediun rich. I've certainly achieved financial stability, I have no debts, and no worries. But this situation has only come about since I have retired.

I Realise that if I disclosed my income, some people may be disgusted that I don't consider myself really rich, but there will always be somebody who rakes in a hell load more than you do. There are to local guys, called the Richardson Brothers, and they are multi Billionaires, which really makes me look like a little guy.

I supose, that at the end of the day, I have my family, and some great friends. I'm blessed with resonable health, and have some capital to indulge in some leasure activities. I have been in some considerable difficulties over time however.

One thing I have learnt in 60 years, is that money isn't the be all and End all. As they say, Easy come, Easy go...

the problem with a capitalist society is that everyone who is waaay rich like those corporate ceos that make a couple thousand a minute... they don't use their excess dinero to help the poor and regular bourgeousie, as was originally intended by the father of capitalism, adam smith

I'm gonna have to say at the moment I'm middle class, mostly because my parents are and I live with them. If I was out on my own I'd be dirt poor. I do know that I will be getting a boat load of money from some inheritence when my gramma dies, boy that sounds bad. I'd never want it to happen in a million years but it's something that's inevitable. I know that I'll probably never have to work another day in my life when that day does happen but having been out and earning a living, not much, but it does teach you the value of a dollar I will have a job. It would be somthing that I enjoy doing a lot, or somthing that really gives back to the community.

It seems like rich people around here are stupid. I'm not counting that they don't realize what they have. Out of all the rich kids at my school, about 5% have a good car. The rest are so freaking retarded that they buy civics and cavaliers and try to beef them up. Me (I'm 17), my 7 year old brother, and my mom live off of her job with little help from my dad and I bought my 94 v6 Camaro myself by saving up my money.

They piss me off because they buy crap and try to make it cool, instead of buying something something good to start out with.

I have been on both ends of the totem pole. I have been very well off and I have been very poor. I lived in a van I bought from a funeral home when I was 18. I traveled the southern part of the US in that van and only had 300 dollars and a carton of cigs to start. That was the best time of my life.

I had a very comfortable life beore that. I prefer the freedom up not having to live up to anyones expectations but my own. Rich people (IMO!!) seem to race each other, lets see who can get the better car, the bigger house, etc etc...

I'm happy As long as I know my electricity will be on when I get home :P

Combining everyones salary at home pushes us to 250K yet I still find it harder making that paycheck meet the next one.

YES, BEING RICH IS A GOOD THING.

However, being rich doesnt necessarily mean you've lived a meaningful life. Work / play balance is everything.

Now in the case of being born rich. I know some rich kids (we're talking filthy rich - grew up in $15m homes, have nice cars, the whole shabang) who are working HARD for a living - one has achieved quite phenomenal success. But of course i also know some who are sitting on their ass driving M3's and 911's and going clubbing, burning daddy's money. It's all about how you're brought up.

I wish I could be filthy rich. At the same time being how I am now would be more challenging. My mom is a single mother with three children, pays $700 in rent plus bills. Gets welfare, child support, medicare, and works every now and then. My dad give me 50 dollars weekly so I can buy clothes and lunch at school. My mom still managed to buy me a civic. The one in my sig. Have you guys ever heard the song "Dear Momma" by tupac, that song should be dedicated to my mom and everyother hard working mom in the world.

Today, I decided that my family's needs were too great for me not to have life insurance. But the ins is so much more expensive if I smoke. I love my pipe, but I love my family more. Today I quit the pipe so I could insure my family's security. Dad's heart is weak, mom's wearing out in the factory, little brother has a brain tumor and can't read...I'm the one who's earning $. This is no sob story. THIS IS A STORY OF GLORY! I never feel so alive as when I get to do something meaningful and helpful for others. I'll never own much since I keep rescuing my family. I'll die poor but content. Property is a tool which love can put to use.

I think best case scenario is, you start out poor (I did, we used to live on 13k/year for 7 people) and then work your way up to rich and then use your wealth in ways that are satisfying.

I have SOOO many awesome business ideas, that I can't put into place without a lot of capital. So in my brain they sit, waiting for the day...

I don't think you could truly appreciate wealth though, without starting at the bottom.

As for where we are now: $35-40k per year. 1 house, 2 cars, and a bit of CC debt to pay back.

As for twospirits - looks like it is time for you guys to reevaluate your spending/income ratio. It sounds like you are going down instead of up. We were stuck in that a while back, living beyond our means to the tune of about $300 a month. When we realized what we were doing we cut back, now we are paying off that debt and everything else too. Now we are on track to have everything paid for (but the house) w/in 4 years, then we will pay down the house.

We had alot of cards between us (6), but we reduced it down to the necessary ones so far, the home depot one (house repair emergency), the Amex (for other emergencies) and the debit visa/checking account (day to day), the utilites are under control, and the saving accounts are starting to go up a bit. We bought a house 5 years ago so we have about 25 years left to pay for it, can't do anything about that though. But we did noticed an improvement the last two months of more cash in our pockets. So its working, probably still more to do.

That's good. The big thing for us was noticing we had a problem and adjusting the spending so much. As for the house - did you know that an extra $100 a month will drastically reduce the home loan? I looked at my loan stubs and right now (just bought the house) only a teensy bit of each payment is principle. So adding $50 in reality doubles the payment.

Yeah, I read about that a long time ago and was retold also by the budget counselors to do that. So we started to do it and the extra bucks we put into it, the sooner it will be finished payed for. Kinda reminds me to do some number crunching in excel and see how sooner it will be payed off.

We have 2 loans. A first and a second because we did not have a downpayment.
#1 is
30 years,
$375.33 a month.

#2 is
15 years,
$145.12 a month

I usually when writing the check, round #1 up to $400 and #2 up to $200. If I keep that up, #1 will be paid off in 24 years and #2 paid off in 8 years. And that is only by adding $80 a month to the payment, split between both.

On my car, I had a 4 year loan (at a ridiculous rate) but I paid $50 extra a month for the 1st year. That actually knocked the term down to 3 years, saving me about $2800 over the life of the loan.

I dont really fit into that group... my mom works and drives a minivan... my dad works and drives a 1996 Cherokee... and we dont have the kind of money where I'm going to live at home the rest of my life and spend my parents money... it doesnt work like that... if i want to make it anywhere im gonna have to go to college and work my ass off

I am not working actually , I am just a student in School and I think I am Middle class but when I get in the university and Study Chemical Engineering , I will probably work at Petrol Company then I'll get a very strong salary ..

The Money is one of the reasons to make me Happy ..
