2 turbos, usually used on engines with 2 cylinder banks V6's, V8's, etc. Some inline 6 motors have used factory twin turbos, and I've seen a couple twin turbo I4's, but not many. Doesn't have anything to do with dual exhaust.

On bigger engines, it has better response. Not ideal for your application scenes how there are plenty of existing turbos that will do the job. Many twin turbo engines from the factory are converted to single turbos such as 2JZs in supras and RB26s in skylines. Very common actually. Twins are ideal for turbocharged V8s due to high displacement and complications routing exhaust to one turbocharger in the engine bay and retaining energy while doing so.

From what I've seen, a twin turbo is usually two turbos of different size. A smaller one which lowers the 'turbo lag' time so that you get boost quicker, and a larger one for the power when you hit higher rpm's.

That is actually called sequential turbos. Not real good from what I hear.

Sequincial turbo has manny advantages over twin and single turbo untill yo ureach about 350-400HP where in smaller engines the 1st and smaller turbo cant handle the extremely high shaft speeds to create such boost...twin turbo also rediced lag but works best on engined larger then ~2.5L or 6 or more cylenders.... where as sequincial turbos are best suited for high reving small engines...the most commonly known sequincial turbo engine is the 13B which comes in a turbo Mazda 3rd gerneation RX-7....and most commong twin turbo known is either the supra or the RB26DETT which is the in the skyline...the disadvantage that sequincial turbo's have is their compexity...wastegates and all this other crap has to be timed for it to work right....
