Hey guys, my mom has a 97' rodeo, and when you put your foot on the gas, it makes a clicking sound. It has 90,000 miles on it, and has had little problems in the past. Any ideas as to what the problem could be, and if so, how much, or what would you do, to repair it?

Has the oil level been checked recently? First thing I would do - but same as 2eyefishclaw, we need more information.

Is this the 2.4 4-cylinder, or 3.2 V6.

And what type of clicking?

The car is a v6, the noise is coming from the engine... The clicking is more of a tapping noise... Its not VERY loud, its not very quiet, but its noticable... Any info would be appreciated.

Im guessing it could be lifters??? Does it get any quieter after an oil change??

for the next year or so when the oil is changed do it while the engine is nice and hot (operating temp)
fill with 5qts engine oil and 1/2 quart of tranny fluid
did it with my own and the noise finally went away
tranny fluid is a very high detergent oil and will clean out the old sludged oil it will just take time to do it. I actually ran a 1 whole quart of tranny fluid in my Trooper with 4&1/2 qts 20w 50 castroil

Could be the timing belt tensioner.

Could be the timing belt tensioner.
Could be if it was REALLY bad. A bad t-belt tensioner usually causes the knock at idle that goes away at higher RPM's

Valve train noises will happen at twice the crankshaft speed. Of course bottom end noises happen at crankshaft speed. Typical bottem end noises are more of a knock or clunk. I agree with checking lifters, or oil pressure. If lifters aren't building up pressure then it will make a noise.
