i have asked this question before and most seemed to be on the fence about the matter. i have custom cats back true dual flowmaster exhuast and it sounds good but isnt quite as loud as i would like. if i were to remove the converters i am quite sure it would set off car alarms with the sound. how ever i have been told by a few people and one being a mechanic that if i do so i will loose too much back pressure and also notice a sharp decline in low end power. anyone done this to thier truck? 97 vortec 350....i was told the thing about loosing back pressure was specifcally toward the vortec 1996 and up. any thoughts? :uhoh:

mines like that, no reduction in power. BUT mine is an 88....yours has OBD2 I have never done anything like that with something that new.

obd 2 has o2 sensors after the cat as far as I remember. Removing the cat would not be good most likely, you could however remove the mufflers.

yeh had the mufflers off when i installed them for a week but it was way too loud and sounded bad. so maybe ill just get high flow converters...or are they a waste?
