Manual transmission failure.

The clutch pedal went to the floor (on my wife - out of town). Pep Boys replaced the clutch cable, and I still had to drive it home with no clutch. I just finished replacing the clutch plate, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing. I still have no clutch. With the transaxle out, the release pin extends about 15mm when the lever is moved. Is that enough? What else could be broken in the transaxle to cause this? I'm a little frustrated.

If you remove the left side plastic end cap there is a small arm in that pushes the rod. It is fairly common to break. The arm is available from the dealer (you should also replace the plastic cap).

Thanks. I actually got that info from the VW dealer service department. I couldn't believe they didn't say "Bring it in, and we'll look at it." I ordered the parts right then, and also got a good look at the prints for the whole transaxle. Many thanks. Now how about a liitle help pulling the thing back out.

You don't need to pull the transaxle to replace that arm.
