Turn Signals

I have a 2000 Grand AM SE and my sometimes my turning signals work and sometimes they don't. I never know when they are going to go out and it's not a safe feeling to have. When they don't work, they don't flash inside the car either. Also - my reverse lights sometimes work and sometimes don't. We've replaced the bulbs, but to no avail. Ciould this be due to a loose connection? Can someone please help? Thanks!

try replacing the flasher. Im not exactly sure where its located on a 2000 but it should be in the dash left of the steering wheel. Usually you can access these by a trapped door underneath down by your knees. Its a small silver cylinder about as big around as a quarter..maybe a hair bigger.
You can find them pretty easy if you turn the turnsignal on (when it works of course) and follow the clicking noise.

when the turn signals quit working do the backup lights quit too? if so get a wiring diagram and go over it to see if they share any part of a curcuit. if they do then check that part very throughly
btw if you don't have acess to a diagram i can get one.

If i'm not mistaken, the flasher module is built in to the emergency flasher button on the center dash console. Remove the ignition key trim, and pull the console. You'll notice a plastic box built on to the emergency flasher button w/ i believe an 8-wire harness plugged into it. Had to replace it on my 2000 GA b/c the flashers quit. Now, as for the back up lights, if they quit too, the flasher prob. isnt the problem.

I also have a 2000 Grand Am SE with the V6 and they just did a recall on the hazzard light swithc because the turn signals are run though them and sometimes the cut out. If that recall hasnt been done take it to the dealer and they will replace it for free. The recall was just issued recently. Mine was doing the same thing minus the back up ligts and the new hazzard light switch fixed it.

Just wondering if this recall is in the States or Canada, as I live in Canada and am most interested in finding out more info on this recall.
Thanks,
Tammy

I know the recall was in the united states. I am signed up on the Generl motors web site to get owner information. www.gm.com then click on owners center and sign up. when you put your VIN number in it will tell you if you have any recalls not done on your vehical. the phone number it gives me to check also is 1-800-762-2737. or you can go to you local dealers service department and they can look it up for you.
