Pretty interesting. I believe GM also made a top-speed-runner Cavalier a few years ago.

so when does the cobalt come out and whats it run the 1/4 in? the redline has the same setup and its slow at 15.3 stock, mainly cause the tranny sucks so hopefully that was fixed for the cobalt.. stock it should run 14.8... guess we will see when ppl start taking it down to the track..

I'd guess a bit higher than 14.8. I've heard that the 200 hp is underrated, and that's actually about what they make at the wheels...this car is sounding more and more like the SRT-4 every day :)

I think they look like a Chey. Like an updated Caviler.

well the body is unmistakeably cav inspired, however, seeing as chevy is targeting the sport compact market, where the civic is currently king of the hill, it dosnt surprise me that they took some styling cues, such as the large headlights that look more like a civic than a cav. chevy is learning from the competition, in order to steal sales.

Yea. Well your looking at the replacement of the Cavalier
It is not the new Cavalier. The cavalier was the Aveo of its time. Then the Aveo came along to fill that void, and GM decided to do away with the Cavalier and move upstyle a little more. The Cobalt starts off in price almost where the Cavalier topped off. It is a Premium Compact sedan. The Cavalier was a budget sedan, and thats what the Aveo is. People who would have bought a Cavalier might buy a Cobalt but its a totally different beast. Remember Car and Driver called it a Mini Lexus, can't say that about a Cavalier. So rather you think so are not the Cobalt is not a spiced up Cavalier, its a completely different vehicle that is more upstyle and a much better. I would even say its giving all the imports in the premium compact section a good run for its money. They are solid well performing cars, contrary to what a lot of people want to tell you on this board. Which seems to lean heavily to the import loving ricer crowd, which is to bad, it would be a great board otherwise.

Yeah right, probably not as much as Toyota and Honda. So shutup. You have no clue how nice the Cobalt is. Like I said before this board caters to ricers and import lovers, like you. :disappoin

Just like the Scion XB, with its center mounted Gauge Cluster. Car magazines called it revolutionary, but when it was in the Saturn Ion it was crap. Looks like someone padded their pockets on that one.

Never owned an import, can easily count over 40 Chevys and Olds. Still pretty easy to see through the hype. I know I shouldn't take the bait but being told to shutup gets my attention. Time will tell how nice the Cobalt is. Have a nice day.

Sure is nice to see Chevy advertising a fuel efficient practical car at least. Seems like all we see on TV are the gas guzzlers, the H2 for sure. Hope the Cobalt/G2 sells well, this country sure needs to start going in that direction I think.

well they just developed the new hybrid transmission system. the electric motor is inside the transmision case, its currently offered in a full size silverado as an option. they have joined forces with i think chrysler, to develop the technology further into frontwheel drive applications. with this kind of packaging, there is no reason it wouldnt be applied to the entire linup of vehicles, lowering the fleet average economy ratings. Far more viable than the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Actually what they have now in the Silverado is just a 42 Volt electrical system that powers all the accessories and starts the car. The only way that the Silverado hybrid improves fuel economy is that the gas engine shuts down when sitting still and the batteries run the accessories. There is no electrical engine that powers or assists the gas engine. GM is working on making their bigger vehicles more fuel efficient first. They already have a full hybrid system in GM buses. In 2007 or so they will start offering full hybrid systems in SUVs and trucks. The same year they should also have a hybrid Saturn VUE, and Malibu, possibly others also. The joint Chrysler version will be used then.

scroll down to the hybrid section, click on flex power. The truck does indeed shut the engine off as you state, however it also uses the electric motor built into the transmitsion. It is described as being between the engine and trans, but having seen it, i would more describe it as being built into the transmission housing. it takes the place of the starter, and plays the role of the electric engines in a hybrid car, without the added bulk and complexity of the more popular setups.

Yeah just like I said, its a giant starter, nothing more. Its not a real hybrid.
