bad throttle position sensor

98 v-6 tacoma. Check engine light keep coming on. According to tool, it is the TPS. Even after reset, the light comes back. Also, notice weird throttle response.

How hard is it to change the TPS on this truck? Advisable to buy the TPS at junk yard?

Near as I can figure from my tech description, you have to replace the throttle body as a whole. The manual gives no procedure for removing the TPS from the throttle body.

Sure, you can get a throttle body from the junk yard. Clean it well after you get it. Don't clean the TPS or the IAC valve.

The TPS (Throttle Body Position Sensor) is very easy to replace, took approx 10 mins. Cost was $65.00 at the dealership, which is the only place that carried it or had it in stock. Only two phillips screws to deal with, and it's right on top. Nothing else to deal with. Email me and I can send you pics if you need.

I thought when changing the TPS, precise adjustments (turning either clockwise or counterclockwise) with a potentiometer were required to set it back into place-might want to check if this is the case.

There really is no adjustments you can make to the TPS on the newer models, that would have been the case on the older model vehicles; it's about the size of one of those old numeric pagers; the dealer said it wasn't something that could be repaired or adjusted, but could only be replaced, they gave me a quote of like $150.00 to replace it, once I saw the part, I figured I could replace it myself.
