1992 300E cruise control out of control

i had this problem the other day. i was going down the highway and had the cruise set at 60 mph. All of a sudden the car accelerates to 80 or 90 then goes back to 60 or less, and back an fourth. even if you press coast/decell, and the only way to stop it is to push the brake pedal. Any thoughts?
