i was driving home, and with only about a mile left to go, my truck starts acting up. all of a sudden there is no acceleration and i'm slowin down major. like if i were running out of gas. thats what i thought was happening at first. next thing i know the truck is jerkin back and forth like when you're riding with someone who REALLY doesn't know how do use a clutch, and you can hear shit clanking. i shifted and the problem seemed to to away, but only for a few seconds. like i said i only had about a mile to go, so i just kept shifting into different gears till i got home. obviously there is something wrong, so i just parked it until i can get it fixed, but i don't know a whole lot about trucks so i'm kinda in a jam here. if anyone knows what is wrong and/or how to fix it please let me know.

Maybe it is a fuel problem. If it is clanking it might just be the U-joints making the noise when the truck is not getting gas and making the truck buck back and forth

hmm....i'll look into that. i was talking to the guys at work today, and one of them said something about a bearing in the transmission dropping, and that being the problem. does anyone know anything about this?

Is this is a manual transmission?

before tearing into the transmission, I would be *very* thourough about checking the ignition and then the fuel system first. These two systems are much more prone to failure than the tranny especially with your symtoms I would suspect loss of spark itermitantly. I am not saying the tranny is not possible, just unlikely.
