My tach is tripping!

Hi all...I have a 92 Prelude SR and recently I noticed that my tach is acting up (or so I think.) I remember my RPM's going up gradually as I accelerated, but recently the RPM's shoot right up into the high 6000's as I accelerate. I also noticed a softer than usual accelerator pedal (more sensitive in other words.) My Prelude is an automatic transmission.

Has anyone come accross a similar problem or have any idea as to what's going on? Any help is appreciated.:confused:

You might want to check your cap and rotor. The tach on my old CRX started jumping around at higher RPM's, replaced the fore mentioned parts and the problem was solved. I'm not 100% sure if thats the problem wiht yours, but it wouldn't hurt to check it out. :)
