fallenprnce: Can you prove that you own one? I mean, if you can afford the $25,000+ to import a 1991 Skyline GT-R, then you can afford a $100 digital camera. Claiming to own a GT-R and not having pics is just stupid, and it's going to get you flamed to no end.

And don't tell me you found it in the desert without a price tag.

I'm not driving one yet, but I almost have enough green saved up to buy a nice 1991 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II. All I need is a FEED front skirt, random racing decals, and a RedSuns sticker, and I'm set! :iceslolan

Well...obviously a Turbo II only has 200rwhp and Ryosuke has like 340-360hp in his beast, so I guess I'm in it for the looks, and not the power, seeing as engine upgrades cost a lot more than stickers...

My brother was REALLY close to getting a 1985 Toyota Corolla SR5 that he was going to convert into a Levin AE85. Go ahead. Tell me that he sucks. He doesn't care about getting only 85hp, so long as the car looks nice and runs well. Besides, he can get the car for around $800 while a stock Corolla GT-S is generally running at about $6,000. I can get a Turbo II for less than that, and I most definitely will!

"Well...obviously a Turbo II only has 200rwhp and Ryosuke has like 340-360hp in his beast, so I guess I'm in it for the looks, and not the power, "

-200hp is more than enough for that car, its RWD, which is, already a great advantage, you should first play around in a big parking lot after reading on what oversteer/understeer/countersteer is and how to shift properly and control the sliding on the rear end of your car (for rwd).

ur insurance would be high since the rx7 is considered a sports car, your brothers choice is good, a corolla 85 is a rear wheel drive car thats more economy considered, that way you get the race feel with cheap insurace =], plus with less than 100horsepower you will actually drive better since you'll be flooring that thing all over tha place lol and drifting and shit.

ps. ;) i wouldnt get an rx7 that old, rotary's are good engines but they run into good problems and cost good money to fix, i'd start with something like your brothers choice, the rwd corolla, thats cheaper and easier to fix, besides, parts for an fc are hard to find and expensive.

i drive an s13-240sx (rwd), but started with a mazda 323 (fwd), i wrecked up my 323 but learned how to drive, im so glad i didnt get an s13 at first, i'd hate myself forever for messing it up

you guy have nice cars but i just watched initial D like a month ago, and i realized that the Hachi-Roku and the 86 Corolla are the same car (close enough) its a nice car it was my brothers and now he saveed up and baught a 2000 mustang, he gave his corolla the same year he baught his car (year 2000)

its weird seeing your car kick ass in downhill drifting like that, now i must save up and get that engine (but my friend says thats illegal)

so ill get some pics tomorrow to show you guys

A few points I took notice of...

Point 1. -200hp is more than enough for that car, its RWD, which is, already a great advantage, you should first play around in a big parking lot after reading on what oversteer/understeer/countersteer is and how to shift properly and control the sliding on the rear end of your car (for rwd).

Point 2. ps. ;) i wouldnt get an rx7 that old, rotary's are good engines but they run into good problems and cost good money to fix, i'd start with something like your brothers choice, the rwd corolla, thats cheaper and easier to fix, besides, parts for an fc are hard to find and expensive.

1. As I said, I'm not interested in that kind of horsepower (I can't AFFORD that much horsepower!). I am quite happy with 200rwhp, and I've toyed around with oversteer/understeer/countersteer plenty of times off and on the streets so I know what I'm messing with. Besides, to get 300+hp in that thing would cast a lot more than I have anyways. And I DO know how to shift. My current ride is Automatic, but I have my fair share of fun in my friends' cars (almost all 5-speeds). It sucks in my car, cuz I gotta use the e-brake so much to just make it look like I'm drifting...

2. Since when is 1991 old? My god we're comparing this to a 1985 Corolla! Hell, I would consider a car from 1979 and before an "old car" right now. I know rotary cars are different and that they require a bit more care. I also have a pretty good hook-up for parts here in Iowa Falls through a friend of mine, so they're at least somewhat affordable. Better'n mazdatrix's prices, thank god. Oh, and that Corolla? Harder than crap to find in the first place! I can find a good RX-7 a lot faster than any AE85/AE86 hatchback around here. Well, in other states, actually. Only 2 RX-7s known to be in Iowa so far. :grinyes:

So I guess in a battle for reliablity, yes, the Corolla would be the better choice. But you have to admit that an RX-7 looks a hell of a lot better compared to the little hatch.

I guess I forgot to add that I've been looking for a rotary car for about a year now. I wouldn't cough up money for a second car unless it was an RX-7. I know I can afford the insurance and gas, and I'm aware of the pros and cons, so deal with it.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, nor am I ridiculing anyone, so please don't yell at me. It's so hard to defend the rotary engine! :uhoh:

Well yeah. I said it would be my second car, so obviously it wouldn't be my daily driver. It is one hell of a fun car to drive (I've driven two in the past).

Oh yeah, Total_Eclipse, that is one nice GC8.

If anyone is interested, I can post pics of my MK4 Jetta, but it's in desperate need of a wash right now...in -15 degree weather.

There is/was no AE92 sprinter in Initial d. Besides, the ae92 is fwd, and for the record, there never was a "sprinter trueno" in the us. You get corolla sr5 or corolla gt-s, 83-87, ae86 chassis.

to insert pics you do this : insert the url of the pic here

stickers = ghey. 91 turbos can be fournd for 6k, but you may want to look at a non-turbo version (160hp) if you never owned or dont know anyone who owns a turbo rotary.

i dont think ryosuke's FC had more than 300hp. keisuke's the one with 360hp.

Forget the FC anyways. The deal fell through. Now I'm just lookin' at a nice MKIII Jetta GLX.
Better gas mileage + more passenger capacity + huge ass trunk = happiness. Three things the FC does not have that I want in a car... :shakehead

Now to end this horsepower squabble.

In the books before the race between Takumi and Ryosuke, the technical information that preceded the actual story rated Ryosuke's FC3S as having 360hp. I wouldn't doubt that knowing how rich he is. Now, before Ryosuke raced Takumi, he lowered the power to 280hp to make the race more balanced, and as the technical information center states in book 14 (the most recent one I have), he still has it kept at 280hp. I'm quoting this as I am looking at the pages, so don't think for a second that I'm bullshitting you. Go buy the damn books and prove me wrong.

Yeah, but I wouldn't be caught dead driving that thing. I dunno, but those retractable lights look so weird to me.

Har har. I found a Jetta III GLX and a Scirocco (Scirrocco? Scirroco?) 16V in Ames today. I am a very happy man now. Maybe I should get both... :evillol:

Oh, and I just confirmed this from Initial D vol. 4, page 154.
Keisuke: "Let's see, you were pushing 340hp before. What did you kick it up to?"
Ryosuke: "Well...in terms of HP...I've tweaked it to max out at 240."
I read through the damn series again just to find this. I dunno how he got that much power, but he did. Yay. Can I go home now?

Well, that depends on how close you want me to get.

I own a 85' Corolla GT-S. Its not White and Black and it dosent say "Fujiwara Tofu Shop" across the side. In fact its not even a Hatch Back. Mines the coupe, and its...kinda red, sun faded, to more of a...warm. The cars a blast to drive, and im just starting to realy practice drifting. The bigest difference between the GT-S and the SR5 is the 4AG-E, where the SR5 has the 4AE7-3X Carburated SOHC; and the lack of an LSD.

Aerowitz
02-09-2005, 02:51 PM
In other words, the SR5 is a bonafide POS. I can't stand cars with SOHC...

Thank god rotary engines don't need all that crap.

drftk1d
02-09-2005, 06:21 PM
i was pretty sure the sr5 wasnt carbed, but what do i know?

Aerowitz
02-09-2005, 09:23 PM
Most cars back then had carbs. Fuel Injection was "luxurious" or "sporty" around the time, so most cars didn't come standard with it until mid to late 80's.
