I have a 1988 cherokee inline 6 auto 4x4! I just replaced all the hydralic lifters, oil and oil filter change and the engine still makes a horrible knocking noise when accelerating and climbing even the smallest of hills.
Does anyone know what else can cause this? would it help to replace the push rods and the rocker arms too or is that a waist of time?
I really want to makek this jeep last another year or two so if anyone has any ideas please help!

If its a "Hard" knocking sound, good chance its the bottom-end. You may need to check and replace all your main and rod bearings along with the oil pump. What is your oil pressure at? If your lucky, just a simple bearing job will fix it, to get you alittle more life out of the engine. Look at your rod and Main jornals when you remove the bearings. Your best deal may be to remove your crankshaft, have it machined and replace ALL the bearings, oil pump, and re-seal.
