Really? well i know of 4 companies subs who are not only cheaper than JL subs, but, in my opinion, have just as good/better SQ, SPL, and SQL than the JL W7 sereis. Digital Designs (DDaudio), Resonant Engineering (RE), Brahama (sp?), and Crystal Audio. JL is a good woofer...if they charged what they are worth, 650 USD MSRP for something that isnt as good as a DD 3512, and the 3512 is 349 USD MSRP...something isnt right since the 3512 is handbuilt by a privet company...which means that it SHOULD be more expensive. JL is so expensive because they know that they are the only largely mainstream audio company with the quality, SQ, SPL, and SQL capabilities. If JL would jsut get off their high "we're better than y'all" high horse they would sell more of their product and be liked alot more by people who know what good brands are....

but, in my opinion....
:)
jl has good bang for buck compared to other mainstream brands, but when compared to adire, and RE, and the other exclusive brands, it's "bang for buck" gets decreased.......its all relative

A good way to get the real answer for your question is to ask,
what are the best car audio subs on the market today, period.
after you get your list, research which subs fit your budget...

hifonics... if u can find them... they are quite rare... i bought 2 12" subs for $70 each and they hit harder and smoother than JL 12" W6's... if ur looking for even higher end stuff... they also sell massive 2000rms watts 15" subs... but there kinda expensive

I'd say tempests are the best bang for the buck...I've installed 6 or 7 of them in vehicles in HUGE porte boxes with a BIG port area and they soud very good. I usually do a tempest and ca600 when people come to me with a few hundred bucks for a system. Another really good one is re's se line I've installed several 15's and 12's and I have yet to not amaze people at what theese tings do off a few hundred watts....yea I'm turnin' my town into an adire/re town i love it.
