Since we don't see too many polls around here, I'd thought I'd post one just for the fun of it. Humor me people, I'm working 6 day weeks the rest of the month and I need to keep my sanity.

Who's afraid of a little rain? I just put one hand on the wheel, the other on the shifter and all my faith in a set of Dunlop's.

i have a question....if you had $400 and a 87 fiero gt 5 speed with 70,000 miles lol what would you do? meaning what would you buy for it??? becasue i have things running through my mind...but i want to see what else people would do......

so what would you buy?

Ragtop_Renegade

I'd get a BILLET ALUMINUM SHORT SHIFTER from the Fiero store, put on a Hearst T-handle, and maybe buy some sweet MSD or Mallory high performance ignition parts.

Midnightryder
10-04-2004, 09:14 AM
that doesnt sound bad...anyone else? or anything else?

400 bucks? well that's not enough to even start on the suspension.....so the first thing I'd buy is the underdrive pulley, short shifter is really nice....i make my own though....then a K&N filter, Bosche platinum +4 plugs, and I guess the rear sway bar and that would get you started on the suspension.

Midnightryder
10-04-2004, 02:37 PM
i already have a K&N filter, the platinum plugs and a rear sway bar....and im going to take the underdrive pulley sit off of my other fiero...

alright so two people said short shifters....

anyone else?

I have to say when it comes to performance plugs on GM cars I've had the best luck with AC Delco Rapidfire plugs (Rapidfires are a bit more high performance designed then the traditional AC Delco plugs installed at the factory) I have installed both Bosch platinum plugs in my Beretta (RIP, even if it was a lemon) and Autolite platinum in My wife's Grand Prix (It has now moved on to another owner) and both cars ran like s*it until I put AC's back in them.

You could buy some nice 17" tires with $400 but you'd have to save more money to buy the rims. Damn cars... worse then drugs at times. There should be a 12 step program for people like us.... HI, my name is Bob, and last week I whored myself to pay for my new exhaust headers...

Midnightryder
10-04-2004, 10:13 PM
lol...a whole week for headers? wow home boy is cheap then lol =P i still thinking about what i should do...

What about some lowering springs and KYB shocks and struts?.....Koni's would be nice, but out of the 400 dollar range. And you're right Ragtop, sometimes I wish it were that easy to make some quick cash to pay for this stuff. Almost makes you feel like a crackhead! http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/eek7.gif

A tune up, wires, plugs, distributor cap, coil, ignition modual, pickup coil (this all assume that the distributor is in A-1 shape), (new distributor if not) new sensors, O2, MAP etc. That should take care of $400 easily.

Well, you could sell your car to pay for... stuff... for your car... OK, scrap that idea. Anyone want to buy a used microwave? I need a FIX man, a FIX.

Hah, a lot of honda drivers still can't put it together. They pull up, hear the motor but think, "Must be like mine, small car, small motor"

Usually let them have first gear, then blast by them in second. After that, I gotta slow down, can't get anymore tickets. Always race your friends, "Aww, why did you slow down, I would have had you"

Well, what do expect from people who put giant rear wings on FWD cars? Gotta have lots of downforce on those unpowered wheels to go fast!!!!!!! My other favorite is the 6" outlet Muffler attached to the stock 1 7/8" catback pipe. Yea.... that's gonna do a lot ....

the bad thing about lowering a fiero is hitting things. go with airbags, expenxive and heavy but well worth it. also, electric water pump. a real quick cheap way for a few ponys is to ad an air scoop. you can by them for around 20 from the fiero store or if you are gonna paint it eventually, custom glass looks good when you do it right. i've seen it done but not willing to try putting a small wing on the front. the few that i've seen aren't anything special but the guys love them

Just got my car maybe forty days ago, and I don't have much in the area of tools and equipment so I'm learning a bit. Got an '86 SE with the 2.8 and auto trans (they don't have many Fieros for sale around where I live, so it'll have to do). Relatively good condition, needs some new paint cause of some little chips. Know where the engine is ;) so I guess I'm not that far in the pits..

GM should make a new fiero in 08.. 25 years after its debut. ;)

An 08 Fiero... what a great idea....

2m4 Sport Coupe with an ecotech and 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual.... standard pw/pl, electric variable assist power steering, powerr brakes, 15" alloy wheels and keyless entry, with optional a/c and moonroof

Fiero SE with trim package, choice of supercharged ecotech L4 or 3500 SFI V6 4 speed auto, or 5 speed manual, a/c becomes standard, and sport gauges are added. 16" alloy wheels, swaybars and moonroof are optional

Fiero GT with front and rear spoiler and GT trim, swaybars, 3500 SFI V6 , 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual. 16" wheels standard. Optional Leather seats, targa roof or panoramic roof, cd changer, premium sound w/ underdash subwoofers

Fiero Formula like GT but with Formula trim package, performance areodynamics package, an HO version of the 3500 sfi, 4 speed auto or 6 speed manual

Fiero Formula LE, limited production model with an all new 300 HP turbocharged dual twin overhead cam (yes, 4 cams) 24 valve direct ignition V6, comes fully loaded, bears gold 25th aniversary badges, full hood fiero decal, and offers a choice of 6 speed manual or an all new 4 speed automatic that allows either automatic shifting, or use of the manual gear controls on the steering wheel.

Anyway, that's how I'd do it.... how bought everyone else?

Sounds like a good deal to me....but i think that's more options than they'd offer. I wouldn't be too picky, I'd go with:

2m4 sport coupe like you said minus the power steering.

SE with the option of a supercharged ecotech or N/A 3800 series III V6.

Formula same as SE but with optional supercharged 3800 series III, and formula trim.

GT with the supercharged 3800 series III standard.

we've all seen it done and we all want to do it so why can't gm put a v8 in it. nothing huge for the average consumer, but a v8 nonetheless. my wife has an aurora v8 and that motor would suit me just fine in a rear wheel drive car at half the weight.

Maybe there are more politics involved that we're aware of. Maybe it's the insurance companies that affect the way companies decide to make our cars....or even car review companies, and media. Personally, I'm getting sick of reading and hearing how great all these foreign cars are compared to our domestic cars and trucks. I really don't think this is true... One of the reasons, I beleive that is an observation I made while working at one of the Honda plants here in Ohio. All cars that were made there had certain tolerances they had to meet in order to be sold, such as body panel gap dimensions and quality of the parts. The cars that were sent to Japan had to be made to tighter dimensions, and I saw several made to these tighter dimensions that were to be sent to some of these media reviews and tests. They all say that they go to a local car dealership and purchase a car right of the lot to test it, but I KNOW this is not always true....so why do they try to pull the wool over the consumers' eyes? Are they being paid by foreign companies to say these cars are better than the ones Ford, GM, and Chrysler are making? Maybe it's just a conspiracy theory, but I think that it's falsified results such as these that have hurt the U.S. auto manufacturers reputations, and have cost us thousands upon thousands of jobs! Maybe some of you have stories or reasons you may beleive things like this may happen....perhaps something should be done about it! Or maybe I'm just going crazy and being too paranoid :uhoh:....lol

Kinda think too many options would be a stretch, but I think maybe the GT should run a 4.6 Northstar V8 like the one in the bonneville 'gxp' (kinda think the GTO's LS1 would be funny, but then you're getting into the area of people asking 'why?' and then there's the price..), and then have the supercharged ecotech be the base with v6 optional on the Formula and SE.. Simply to keep from having 4 engines that would vary simply with a few other options such as trim.

No traction control? Please? :-P

Could also maybe use the 2.4 ECOTEC coming out on the Solstice next year as base.....

You have to give the people an engine option that's good on gas, then you need the big motor for the people that don't give a crap about gas and want power. A V8 would be fun, but like FierceGT said there's a reason we don't get many 500hp cars off the showroom floor anymore... whatever that reason is... Maybe the conspiracy people are right and maybe the CIA does run the country. Maybe these people are being paid off by Toyota to ruin our domestic car market, and maybe the cast of Friends will rule us all.... If that's the case, I'm moving to Europe, that Ross dude gives me the creeps.

Replaced my alternator belt, now seems as tho it's not getting gas tho i removed the fuel filter and it's getting gas thru it and up to it from the pump, but with gas poured in the carburator it will run on the gas in the carberator then die out. any suggestions? any secrets like a relay at the fuel pump, relays or timers i should know about?
