stupid truck drivers

<VENT>so its 930pm on sunday, and its really empty out on the roads (relatively), and i'm hitting the onramp to I-70 west, and of course, like any aspiring race driver, i decide to hit the racing line... oh man i had it dead on, hit the gas a little bit after the apex. as i exit, the outside of my left front wheel hugs the right of the white line... perfecto... and this friggin semi is driving in the adjacent lane, VEERS over into my lane, by about, 1-2 feet approx. (at least the front half of the semi was at that point) I look in my side view mirror, and all i see is 5' tires. so i swerve over to the right of my lane and hit the brakes... dude moves about another 1-2 feet over, then moves ~2 back towards the left... still hanging over into my lane by about 1-2 feet.
it almost turned into a scene from F&F! (or nat'l lampoons x-mas vacation, for you old-schoolers).
he ruined my exit :|

Man, truck drivers do suck!! My favorite is when they get there swerve on and kick up stones off the road!! They should have their own lane and have to stay in it!

I don't know how low your car is, or how high that truck was, but i know most every truck i pass on the way to and from Phoenix on I-10, there isn't enough room to pull a Fast and the Furious move. I've looked to see, and i'd say at least 90%, if not more of the trucks, I'd end up hitting well below the roof line. Must be a different type of truck? (like the kind that don't have a full trailer, but a bed that a cargo box can fit on?)

yeah, truck drivers do suck... just last week I had an experiance like that... I'm in the fast lane on a 45 MPH road with a truck to my right in the slow lane... we're going around a turn (he's on the inside) and he decides to change lanes into me, he was ~ 2 feet in my lane, and I jammed on the brakes... I guess he heard my tires screeching as I tried to avoid him, and he swerved back into his lane.
I had a bag of popcorn on my passenger seat w/ my heavy backpack behind it. When I slammed on my brakes, both were launched onto my floor... my backpack poped the bag of popcorn and it was all over my floor.... lol

There was one on the news the other day where a semi jack-knifed and a car went under the trailer. If the car had been lowered or if is was a car with a lower roof line, it probably would have gone through and out the other side and not got wedged underneth. The lady driving was OK.

ok i might have exaggerated a lil' bit... but the bottom of the bed did seem to be about level with my eyesight (i'm 5'9)... maybe even higher, i could see to the other side (was about all i could see... it was literally inches from me).
but no seriously the huge wheels completely filled my mirrors... i thought i was going to get messed up pretty bad before i swerved over.

Especially when they ride up your arse for miles and miles refusing to turn off their damned brights.
I too have had several trucks try to change lanes into me before.

Yeah Truck drivers suck! Its always our fault when some little boy racer in a hurry to get dead pulls out in frount of us thinking he can acclerate and get out of the way
Or when they come flying round a blind corner and get it sideways accorss the road in frount of the truck
Or when they cut in frount of you changing lanes, and then brake hard. So hard the back half of the car disapears from view below the line of the window.
Or when they try and pass you in stupid places where if the looked they would see there isnt enough room
Or when they drive right beside the truck in your blindspot and wonder why you never saw them
Want me to keep going? :finger:
I dont know how bad it is in America but 70% of the crashes here involving heavy vechiles and a car were the cars fault.
Getting a perfect line out of an on ramp is all well and good, but did you consider the possiblty that you moved very quickly up into the trucks blind spot just as he was changing lanes? Next time give them a bit more room, and make sure they see you before you go flying past.

Yeah it's called 'Right of Weight'! Being wong with something as big as a rig can be very costly.

so just because the driver of the truck neglected to look in his mirrors before changing lanes right after the onramp is MY FAULT? no, i dont think so. even dispite him changing lanes... a mere SIGNALLING could have significantly helped... but no, he didnt do that either.
i'm not calling you a bad anything... but please do not defend this moron.

...not that he was changing lanes in the first place... he's just a sloppy driver.

Yeah, there are some real dorks out there driving trucks. Ands it's quite possible that he was one of them. If he drifted accross lanes with out indicating and with out looking then he shouldnt be on the road.
At the same time its very easy to be sitting beside a truck and be in its blind spot. You need to be able to see the driver in his mirror to know that he can see you if you are beside the truck. If not, then chances are he dosnt know your there, and your taking a big risk.
If you ever get the opertunity sit in the cab of a truck, and get someone to walk down the side of it. You will be amazed how big the blind spot is.
(unless it has multiple convex mirrors)
I just dont want you to get a bad attitude towards all truck drivers just because of one idiot. Its hard enough driving a truck on its own, with out having to worry about attitude from people in cars who have never driven anything larger than a station wagon.
Right of Weight will always win. No matter what the road rules say, you can't beat the rules of physics.

i totally hear the fact that truck drivers have it harder than anyone else on the road. whenever i'm near a truck, i always try to stay away, not so much that i'm afraid of him (or me) screwing up, but just that mistakes happen, and a mistake involving a truck is never a minor mistake. i especially pay attention to their blind spots when on the highway, and usually on regular roads when traffic isnt bumper to bumper.
but keep in mind that as i was doing this racing line... i exited the onramp going pretty damn fast... a good 55+mph by the time i straightened out... not bad. the truck was probably going 60+mph. i had JUST begun to come up on the side of him when it happened. a few more seconds later and i would have been past him. i had no intention of staying next to him for long, it was just a bad coincidence that he happened to pull this... whatever you want to call it, as i was coming up on him.
and now that i tihnk of it, he surely SHOULD have seen my car on the onramp at some point or another. i sure as hell saw HIM pass me as i was still on the onramp (4/5 through with it).
