Vinyl Armrests

I'd like to do the armrest's of my prelude with white vinyl, I was just looking for some tips on it. Should I take off the old fabric... should I just use 3M spray adhesive. and does the actually peice come off or do I just have to cut the vinyl perfectly and tuck it in the crevis real nicely??? any help is appriciated, thanks in advance
