the gts is rear wheel drive while the sr5 isnt, big deal when drifting.

They are both RWD, the GTS is the better of the two. It's the cheaper way to go and then converting it to a GTS

The Sr5 technicaly has a 4age engine, but there are so many varients of it. The trueno has the high compression, while we in the states get fed up the a and have to have the low compression~ good to turbo~ really i wouldnt get an sr5, its alot of money and time be patient and browse Ebay, also u could settle for a coupe... remember the years u want are 83-87 after 87 they became fwd, both gts and sr5 =(... its all about the LSD

oh boy!

okay I've owned BOTH so here's how it works

sr5- had the SOHC 4AC engine, with about 80hp. It's RWD and an LSD was not offered from teh factory, and the bumpers are all one piece and unpainted

GTS- has the 4AG and about 120hp, is also RWD, and had a factory OPTION of an lsd, so not all GTSs have an lsd. but suspensionwise the cars are both teh same.
