I have no idea why I started doing my STi, but I got the interior done. I messed up a little, scratched masking tape too hard, got a different blue on the door panels... and the stickers messed up the seats!! How to put stickers on flat color? There're water smudge around the stickers :(

It looks pretty good! :D There may be some water still trapped under the decals. What kind of paint did you use on the seats? How long did you let it dry?

It's Tamiya XF-8, I left the seats at least a day (before the decal) so they should be all dry..if you mean after the decal, the smudge is still there after I guess 5 hours now.

The interior is looking really nice.
Most likely you left water under the decal.
When putting any decal on a matt surface try and cut as close to the decal you can

How to put stickers on flat color?

one technique u might want to try is one employed by many military modelers. Seeing as there aren't many shiny gloss camouflaged tanks around this poses a problem when applying decals in the model world so what they do is gloss coat the entire surface, apply decals, then apply matt coat.

No seat belts cos I'm keeping this one stock.. for now :)
Where do I find matt coat spray? I've only seen gloss and semi gloss coat.. I should try that.

You could also try a setting solution like solvaset or something similar.

Yes, coating the entire seat in flat clear will probably do the trick.

Did you apply the decals over the XF-8 directly, or did you first apply a gloss clear coat first? If you didn't apply a gloss clear coat, the decals may silver because of the flat paint.

I use a mix of Tamiya X-21 flat base and clear acrylic (I use Future Floor Polish but X-22 will work too), at a ratio of around 70 clear/30 flat base.

ahh ic now :D Thanks for the pointers I'll try that!
Does that mean I can use flat clear on any gloss paint to make it flat too?

Does that mean I can use flat clear on any gloss paint to make it flat too? Pretty much. It's only the top layer that counts.

Flat clear over gloss paint = flat finish
Gloss clear over flat paint = gloss finish
