Tires rubbing

I have slightly larger than stock tires on my 94 S-10 and they are rubbing when I make turns and hit bumps in turns. What can I do to resolve this (other than changing tires)? Would a small lift kit work? New springs (shocks are new). The current springs have 180k on them.

Suggestions?

you could move the adjustable stops to stop from turning too much, they are located somewhere close to the tires... If you get someone to turn the steering wheel you should see some bolt that stops the wheel from turning any more, just turn that a little, until the rubbing stops

They tend to rub more when making turns with dips. And it is only the outside front wheels (right wheel making left turn, left wheel in right turn) Example: turning out of my parking lot at work onto the driveway then onto the street (S type turns). The surfaces are uneven (not bumpy more of a dip) and the tires are hitting when in a turn going onto a raised or lowered serface at speed (@ 5-10 mph). Does that make sense?

I can put the wheel i a full turn on my street (U-trun) and nothing rubs... just when an uneven surface or dip is involved.

That's a pretty common probelm with oversized tires, and just adjusting the stops really should help cure the problem. It's well worth the 5 min work to try this.

Yes it will increase your turn radius a little, but you probably won't even notice.

I Could Be Wrong But... If You Are Makeing An Adjustment To A Couple Bolt On Your Frount Suspension To Prevent Your Tires From Rubbing Then You Should Have Less Turning Radius... Correct Me If Im Wrong Because I Could Be But If You Are Trying To Make The Tires Stop Rubbing Then You Are Going To Adjust Those Bolts So The Tires Dont Turn In As Much, There For They Wont Rub And That Would Give You A Smaller Turning Radius. But You May Not Notice Either Way.

it would be easier to lift the truck and put wheel spacers between the wheel and the hub.

Wheel spacers? I am not familar with those. Can you describe the process and where I can get? Also, do I need to do a lift to use them?

Sorry to say this Halk45, but wheel spacers aren't really that good of an idea, they are usually a plate that puts your wheels out further, which means less stud in the lug bolt, and more possible problems. Plus it's easier to addjust 2 bolts than lift any truck.

JWorm420 I've been out of school for a long while, but if I remember correctly a longer space required to turn is an increased turning radius.

if you adjust those bolts you will effect your turning radius. you will be making alot more 3 point turns than you did before. wheel spacers are no longer built that way. wheel spacers come with lugs already bolted to the spacer so you dont need to purchase longer lugs. you bolt the spacer up to the hub with the supplied bolts and you use your original lugs. the lug nuts fit the same way on the stud as the factory intended. you can get them in a variety of thicknesses. 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", etc depending on how much room you need to get rid of the rubbing.

yeah but if your wheels are rubbing when you turn to sharp, why would you want to be able to make a sharper turn, that dont make sence, infact its dumb. if you adjust those bolts so the wheel stops rubbing then you should be limiting the truck from turning as much. so basicly more turning radius more rubbing, less turning radius, less rub.

Or (I know, I know, why in the world would you do this) just slow down a bit around those corners, lol. My camaro did that when I'm was whippin around corners cuz the tires were fake kelly chargers and the side walls weren't as thick, so the tire had more play. Got dayton daytona's (a real brand now) and now they don't unless i'm about to loose traction. Try getting thicker sidewalled tires.
