Does your window rattle when it is not up all the way? If it does it sounds as if your felt in the window track is bad. Last time I replaced one it cost about $100. If your going to change the felt, you might as well change the outside seal. The felt holds the window snug when it wears out, the window can cock, driving along it will settle and it will go up. Try running the window up until it stops, then pinch the window with both hands and move it and try running it up.
As far as changing the key, get a Haynes manual. It is not difficult except for removing the steering lock ring, you will need a special tool to compress it to remove the wire clip.

No, the fact that the window will go 3/4 the way up tells you that the motor is operating. He needs to check the felts and lubricate the arms (nylon slides on the bottom of the window) and slides.
