For curiousity's sake, Was the car acting up at all before the engine light came on?? If so, what is or was it doing? or did the light just come on?

yeah take a paper clip and bridge pins a and b over and it will flash the codes. but i would just unhook the battery for 10 minutes and let it reset, that may get the light to go off.

Read the dudes post, he already went to two autozones to have it checked.

I didnt think you could pull codes on newer cars like that by jumping 2 terminals on the diagnostics connectors???

you may want to check all the wires at the connector to make sure none of them have moved back... that would cause the problem you are having... other than that also check the wires at the pcm as well...

OBDII systems can only be read with a scanner, take it to the dealership and bite the bullet

The guys runnin that scanner are probably minimum wage pimple faced little punks fresh out of highschool that dont know a piston from their sisters tit.. if its anything like canadian tire (canadian equivalent to autozone or pep boys)
Bring it to the dealership.. either autozone is doing it wrong, or you have an electrical short somewhere which would be near impossible to track down without the proper equipment...

im sure that if you take it to the dealership and they cant scan it, they wont charge you for it.. but you might want to ask first

well im not familiar with autozone, but if im correct, they have a universal scanner, which scans every make and model with the aid of interchangeable connector tips and mass storage cartridges. so its possible they are using the wrong connector and/or mass storage cartridge. if there really is a wiring problem to the connector, say for instance a class 2 data link malfunction, or a malfunctioning BCM or PCM, that might also be the problem, if it is a wiring and/or module problem on the car, please for the love of god dont let pep boys, autozone, jiffylube, or any others anywhere near them, i did electronic diagnositc work at a chevy dealership, and fixing all their fuckups cost people lots of money. take it to the dealership, and ask them specificly for their electronics specialist to look at it. it should go to him anyway, but its best to specificily say it.

wow this camaros are really hard to fix

actually, they are one of the easiest vehicles to work on that ive found.. But you've got an electrical short somewhere.. which can really try somebody's patience.. no matter what type of vehicle you are working with.. electrical problems can either be easy or very very hard to pinpoint.. especially in the newer vehicles where everything is computer controlled..

electrical problems are usually best left to the pros

yeah i didnt mean to make camaros out to sound bad at all, for most things the cars are all but unstoppable, and when something does stop them, all it normally takes is a few hits with a hammer, replace a part here or there, and they keep going. Electrical problems are a universal pain in the ass, no matter what car it is, if you have a tiny little rubthrough somewhere in a bundle of wires, you might never find it. all it takes is a break in the insulation less than a millimeter in size, and you can loose all kinds of functions, now take into concideration that there are literally miles of wireing inside the modern day car, and you can understand why finding that little rubthought can be such a pain in the ass. especially if its somewhere hard to get to, like under the dash or between the engine and the firewall. but yes compaired to the modern cars i am used to working on, the camaros are a dream. :)
