AC pump belt?

I assume that my compressor went bad... I went to start my car and there was this great squeeling noise, after about 8 seconds there was white smoke coming out from under the hood.... let me rephrase that... LOTS OF WHITE SMOKE!!!! so I pop the hood..yes car is off....and the AC belt had been burned right through!!! I reached down to spin the AC compressor wheel and it spun freely.?.? I'm thinkin that under the load of a belt the bearings locked up.?.?
My question is... is it ok to run without the belt?

The car is fine without the AC belt, I ran this way fo years before I got off my ass and actually removed the AC.

yeah i just got that belt put on my car like a month ago and its done nothing but sqeak nomatter what i do to it so its prolly cmming back off.. of coarse that means i need to bulk up my arms in prep for no ps again haha..

No pwr steering?.... oh you have a GS/diff motor... tee hee...
