Dash indicator "D" is always lit, as well as any other gear the shifter may be at - however, only 2nd gear. Can manually pull to 1st, bump to 2nd ok. This is the silly part - notice it more when it is raining! Doesn't do it all the time, mainly when needing to be at highway speed! Thanks in advance.

No. The "D" is solid, as if in that gear. If put in any other gear, including park, that gear indicator light as well as "D" are on. At start up, Only "P" is on. After pressing the brake to shift into gear is when 2 lights are coming on. Most of the time, after a few minutes it returns to normal.

so sometimes you only have 2nd gear?...this is "safety mode" for these transmissions...it will do this when the computer senses a problem with the AT...the "D" indicator is telling you there is a problem with the transmisson...mecanical or electrical...

First, let me say thanks to all. Now then, What is the most reliable & affordable steo to determine where the problem is? The local Honda Dealership quoted $130 minimum to troubleshoot. Is this a good deal? suggestions?

it seems a little high...i assume that is a labor only quote and that's a quote for at least 2 or 3 hours to find the problem they should be able to do it in 1 hour it's not like they don't do this for a living...see what their labor rate per hour is or what else they are charging you for.
